why? that i can't answer. but i once pointed out that a women's summit had nothing but white women and was called racist, etc. plus we only ever hear about how much white women make compared to men. 77 cents for every dollar. yeah, i know.

now pretend there was a human convention full of only white men as if they're the only humans out there. now imagine what some white feminist would have to say about that.

the word "feminism" has been so white-washed and it just stands for a bunch of hypocrisy and double standards

I know exactly what you mean, and I think it's pretty terrible that that happens.

I'm sure i've said many terrible things in the past and it's a learning process, i'm always trying to check my privilege and listen when others speak about things that offend them so I can learn about it and actually stand by them instead of ignorantly propagate discrimination.

That said, as a gay woman I'm very often the aim of a lot of discrimination and people trying to tell me how I should feel about stuff that I do find discriminating and offensive that is no big deal to them
So I totally empathize with you on this.

To not even mention the women who are actually sexist because of their background and upbringing. It really sucks, especially with all the information there is out there and how easy it is to get at least a little bit informed.

it was pretty odd to realize at the women's march in D.C. that 19 out of 20 ladies I saw in the crowd with huge signs how they are screwed etc. were white and rocking 500 dollar jackets.
here and there you'd see one black woman glancing at a "suburban soccer mom" and chuckling at their signs.

apropos of nothing, a coworker gave me a book yesterday, Pink Sari Revolution, about the Gulabi Gang. Halfway through, highly recommended.
I also haven't felt this stupid (aka being made aware of how clueless I am and how much privilege I'm bathing in) while reading something in a long time.

I would think that that figure is how much all women earn on average. So women of colour would earn even less than that and white women would earn more than that.
