this kinda broke my heart
I love the Cranberries and Everyone Else was an important record to me through some hard times in my life. I am glad I got to see them live in 2009. They came here this past September and I almost went but decided I didn't need to spend the money... so yeah I'm glad I got to see them previously. I know she had a back injury last year and I am wondering if maybe this was a painkiller overdose |

Musically speaking, yes.
But just the last few years have seen deaths to the singers of Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, The Cranberries and I think I might be missing a few other musicians. |

The Cranberries are my second favorite band just behind the Pumpkins. This is really surreal that she has passed. I hope it wasn't suicide. She had a bad divorce in 2014, numerous album sessions fell apart and their new record was just a rehash of old songs. This was around the time she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well. They canceled their tour this last fall for her "health issues" that was said to be back pain. Could have been a bad combo of pain killers and anti-psychotic medication.
I have been such an avid visitor here for nineteen years now. I haven't really posted all that often but if there is a netphorian hell no one will even know who I am. |

Last night I got back from visiting family in Phoenix. I got off the light rail and on the way home decided to stop into the Irish pub in my neighborhood. It's owned and operated by a really nice guy from Ireland who's not trying to cash in on a theme bar like many of the other "Irish pubs" I've been to in different cities. Sat down at the bar with my suitcase to order a drink and not long after that "Zombie" came on. An instant smile came over my face (yes it's not a happy smiley song) before noticing a young woman sitting back down at the bar. I got up and walked over to ask "Did you just play The Cranberries?" She said "Yeah, sorry but I just had to." I said "No, please don't be apologize. Thank you." We exchanged friendly smiles before I went to sit back down. She had queued up a marathon of sorts including a lot of cool deep cuts and singles. I've been a fan since I was a teenager so yeah it was a good night at the pub in our rough but friendly neighborhood.

it seems like with every successive casualty in the music world, the compound mourning effect starts to tug on everybody, it's like a collective weight on everybody's shoulder - that realization that musicians are just people and so many of them are starting to die after we had grown used to thinking they would be here forever.
last night at the bar they played all cranberries for a few hours. personally i think something like that is reserved only for very celebrated artists, but listening to some Cranberries sucked me right back to being in high school, practicing 4-chord songs by them as my first attempts at guitarring. learning for the first time that a song can be 4 chords all the way through and still sound fresh and eventful, if you arrange it right - cranberries mastered that. it'll be alarming if it's suicide, honestly. |
