i try not to use too much flavoring because it's got so much sodium. sometimes i just eat the noodles plain.
a cold front passed through on sunday night and it's been relatively cool since then (~50F at night, ~75F during the day) but it's already warming back up and will probably be in the 80s tomorrow

I guess weather forecasts are the same throughout Florida, then. The high here is 76F.

What did you think of I Am Legend?

i generally don't follow the dolphins (i had to google "cam cameron" to find out what you were talking about) but looking at the team's record i'd say he can't be doing a very good job as a coach

It's a pretty somber movie with some great suspense. Make sure you see it this weekend (or at least before it goes out of theaters.)

How many times do you use a towel after a shower before washing it?

i read the book a couple years ago. they changed a lot of stuff in the movie, including the ending, which was the best part of the book for me.

the movie ends in such a hollywood fashion it makes me sick.

i don't know really. i usually just use it until something tells me it's time to change it, i.e. if it's noticeably dirty or i just realize that it's been a long time since the last time i changed it.

I was generally unimpressed with the ending. The whole film really didn't lead you to believe something like that was going to go down.

*spoilers in black*

i don't feel like they let the other two characters in the movie develop enough. by the time the end of the movie came around, it was like the good part had just gotten started. they should have either introduced them earlier on or not at all.

i may have asked you this before, but do you enjoy what you're studying? are you naturally compelled to do it? what kind of career might you pursue when you finish?

i do really enjoy what i study. the really interesting stuff is yet to come, i think. next semester i'm finally going to start studying signal processing and real practical applications of everything i've learned so far. i'm just waiting for the link between all the classical electricity, physics, and math material i've learned and how all that will relate to some audio application.

it's really kind of a shot in the dark for me to guess what i will do when i graduate because i'm still not entirely sure what my options are. so far the most interesting fields i've thought about going into are audio component design (microphones, speakers, mixing boards and other recording equipment) working with someone respectable like sennheiser. i'll be getting a degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in audio, so if i don't find anything in the audio field i can go into semiconductor design or really any sort of electronics design. i'm just waiting for something to really grab me i guess.

i'm not interested so much in recording and production--the audio engineering program here is in the college of engineering and as such focuses on theory much more than applications. there is a music engineering program that sort of has one foot in the school of music and the other in the college of engineering that is more oriented toward studio work

IU's program was the same way. over half of our courses were with the physics and engineering departments and we could choose if we wanted to focus on music or engineering. a lot of engineering students actually came over to our department to have more fun with what they were working on, and made some of the best engineers we had.

that's really cool. i am envious. engineering was always something i would like to have gone into but somewhere along the way, i became a distracted fuckup. it's something i think i'd pursue with my all if it weren't for the fact that i'd have to get, you know, a career to pay off tuition. it's weird these days. if you decide to pursue a degree in something pretty specified, there's little way of forecasting the job climate at the end of your 4 years.

electrical engineering is pretty broad though. right? i have no idea.

yeah, any engineering degree can get you into most fields (with some experience in that field through internships or something). the administration at my school likes to say that an engineering degree is a degree in problem solving, and i know to some extent that's marketing bs, but it's also true in a lot of cases. engineering school conditions you to think in a certain way that allows you to analyze and solve problems and consider all sorts of factors. electrical engineering in itself is pretty broad and could involve anything from low-level hardware and software design (i was told that UM audio engineering alums wrote pro-tools) to testing, diagnosing, and repairing equipment. i mean, my dad got a bsee and now he's selling medical equipment and managing sales for his company over all of latin america.
