Default crate training

as i have mentioned on thsi board before, my roommates have a lab puppy that they are crate training. i sit here now and the dog has been in the crate for 12 hours now. i think they may have taken him out for a piss in that time. i know this is well beyond the amount of time he should be spending in there, but i'm starting to think i'm completely against the idea of keeping your dog in a fucking box for hours at a time.

are there any alternatives to crate training?

crate training is when you show a dog who's boss by confining them to a tiny box with no stimuli for hours on end.

this is what i gather, at least.

I had a look on wikipedia to see what it was used for and, for showing the dog who is boss, we didnt give him treats for nothing and he ate after the family had eaten. For teaching the dog to go to bed we did the usual treats/commands jazz. For toilet training we just moved him to a suitable area when he looked like he was going to shit all over the carpet.

We made sure he was comfortable with going in a cage to travel though. We dont even use that anymore. Anyway, your friend should be reported to animal welfare.

Your roommate sounds like an asshole. Crate training can work well but you can't leave the dog in the crate for more than 3-4 hours at a time and even then only if necessary.

From what iv read, crate training is good if you have a busy lifestyle. And if you have a busy lifestyle, you shouldnt have a fucking dog.

Well I don't know about that GK. My girlfriend and I both work 45+hours a week but we are able to ensure the dog is never alone for more than 3-4 hours by mixing up schedules and making time during the day to jet home. Luna was crate trained and views her crate as her own house now. I keep the door wide open and she goes to relax in there when she wants some alone time.

Go peel some guys face off the tarmac then down a bottle of JD so your Passed Out Ass doesnt have to see his body crumpled in the corner of your room when you try to sleep.
