babby is doing well, thank you. she's five and a half months old now. lots of smiles and laffs. seems there's some new development nearly every day, some little evolution of character or behavior that makes her an increasingly active participant in the world. paired with the nearly unfathomable and persistent reality of having made a person, it is staggering to observe.

the other day we went to the park and she swung in the swing set for the first time. the pure delight in her reaction, and maybe the way the light was, or something, just did me in entirely.

i'm glad you got/get to experience these moments. i honestly can't imagine having a creature i made with a person i love and trust who has half my dna and half of their dna who is becoming a human... you know what i mean, capable of reflecting on life, morals, happiness, sadness, etc, with a personality... shit man, a little jealous if i'm being honest

what other first things has she done?

i don't drink these days, and when i did, my sphere of booze savvy had a stunted radius. "hard liquor with a bit of ice," is how i'd describe my go-to spirit

non-alcoholic, i'd say lemon ginger tea or very cold sparkling water give or take a lime

favorites of anything are totally context-dependent, though

thank you. and i can hardly fathom it, either, despite her existence. it's wild stuff.

other firsts are the usual things like first smile, first laugh, responding to her name, watching her realize she has hands aka "grabbers" and slowly discovering their usefulness

still hung up on what meaning is

this is a great question and i have no actual answer. i'd like to have amassed a mighty collection of cardigans and slippers. maybe living in the blue hills of western north carolina or the adirondacks. messy sculpture studio in the shed. daughter chasing fireflies amid a twilight chorus of cicadas and frogs

have you noticed her having complex thoughts? i know that's hard to explain but like... something like recognizing herself in a mirror or figuring out a use for something all by herself that amuses her?

perhaps i've taken too many psychology courses...

this child came from your SPERM what the fuck

that's like asking if a female fetus can get pregnant, making a woman a mother and grandmother simultaneously

Did you test the theory that newborn babies have an innate ability to swim that is forgotten after about a month?

"I bet it won't drown" could conceivably finance an entire infanthood's worth of nappies.

she loves to look in the mirror. i dunno how she's interpreting what she sees, but she knows it's herself. weird stuff.

next questions.

excluding earth, what is your favorite planet?

have you ever eaten grass?

do you prefer grape or cherry medicine?

what brand of toothpaste do you use?

what happens when we die?
