There's this tutoring job open that pays $18/hour that I could probably handle but I don't have any references. I applied and everything. The owner of the franchise knows my dad and wants to hire me but none of my old professors from college are responding, because I graduated almost 6 years ago and there's no way they remember me. I'm not sure what to do about this. :/

* "would of." The period goes inside the quotation in this and most other instances.

Work is tough as fuck (for weakling me). Constantly on the move, unloading donations up to a hundred lbs, making pallets, moving pallets with full 4x4 wares boxes, throwing out containers half my height full of shoes (the dumpster top is higher than my head and I have to lift that shit).

And I'm kicking ass. About to complete the regular two week training in a week. Buxom Bosoms of Dejah Thoris!!!

I need a quick little piece of advice. I've been torn between reading the Dark Tower books or the Song of Ice and Fire books.

I probably only have one giant series of books in me for the next 10 years, so any advice on which I should read first would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm interested to see what others say.

I gave up on the Martin series about three chapters into the first book, and I've made repeated attempts at the Gunslinger with no success, especially because every King novel I have finished has left me feeling ripped off so it makes me hesitant to invest in a series.

People from the oboard might remember me saying that I told my husband not to ever mention in front of my friends that Stephen King was his favourite author. I was embarrassed to be in a romantic relationship with a total nerd, basically. As if I was like cooler than that or something lol. What an idiot.

But I still can't get into King, or Martin. Too many pages of (seemingly) unimportant details.

I prefer this series and they are very unique (Western Fantasy is too cool) and should also get an HBO series, I would watch that

there is an equal amount of your favorite characters dying but considerably less sex in Dark Tower

Ironically King's series is much more your traditional fantasy series where a gang of unlikely protagonists (a Kat-et in Midworld) have to travel a long distance and the pacing will make you feel that distance

Where as Martin's series is a Drama where the setting isn't actually that important which is why it attracts people who wouldn't ordinarily be all about dragons and shit (I'm assuming)

i've read half a dozen King novels. I found them mildly entertaining and occasionally tedious. He's maybe the only author who's work is better annotated down to the movie format.

I respect martin for his style. But I couldn't read more than one and a half of his GOT series. Reading a 30 page description of a meal just so I can get to a tiny bit of plot drove me crazy.

i bet if you compiled all the sentences that reference or describe food in the GOT series you'd have a 700 page book

The Gunslinger is just over 200 pages not too much an investment to see if you can dig it

You'd be better served reading like Blood Meridian than a goofy King western sure but you wouldn't get wizards AND cowboys in the same book

i have no friends here i can talk to. i have a lot of friends. But when I say anything about what's going on with me they look at me like somebody died or something.

Also, I need a friend who's willing to hang out, not drink alcohol and bum me cigarettes so I don't feel like I'm actually a smoker.
