The Vatican Tapes - 2/5

Who ever thought the coming of the antichrist could be this boring?

The Jungle Book B+

This was indeed much better than I could have hope for. They really did a great job of incorporating elements from Kipling original with the Disney version. Stuff like the dominance of the elephants, the wolves creed, the monkeys being called the Bandur Log, etc was greatly appreciated by Fulltoke.

And Shere Khan was soooo evil. I love it!

Only problem: too little Kaa. In the books (there are two) Kaa is a good guy, or at least an ally, it is Kaa who delivers Mowgli from the clutches of the Bandur Log at Cold Lairs, by hypnotizing them and devouring them.

I am disappointed that they don't show the whole story, the horrible descent into loneliness and anger and despair.

My husband downloaded this last night because he knows I like murder mysteries. It could have been worse. 5/10.

Huh? R u srs?

The last chapter is pretty sad. but that's about it. Most of the other tales end well. You all should read rikki tikki tavi btw. its about a mongoose taking on cobras.

Watched American Psycho for probably the 12th time last night. Still a 10/10, and it seems to be getting funnier the older I get/the more I watch it.

I'm watching season two of "The Missing." As much as I enjoy series like this, especially when they break with typical narrative structure, the lack of plot resolution is starting to drive me mad. Every one of these things ends in misery. The Killing, The Leftovers, The Returned, etc. etc.

At the same time i find conventional television dramas boring and uninspiring. I don't think it's only that my tastes have changed. I think that the rise of shows like this, modern noir, has pushed otherwise conventional TV drama into even more formulaic and uninspired territory. Network TV today makes shit like The Mysteries of Laura with Debra Messing, which has to be both drama and mild comedy and turns out being a hollow mess. It's like everything needs to be either heavy as all hell or nothing at all.

it's the same inspiration. maybe it's the lack of daytime sun in the winter. or the cold.

There's a new Icelandic show that just started airing on Viceland called "Trapped" which seems promising in a cold and dreary way

John Wick Pt. 2

Exactly what you would expect. Not the best movie, but we just went for some action and that's what we got. Too bad Tim kept falling asleep because our theater chairs reclined.

Yeah, even though I watched it at least three times per week at the age of 16, Mallrats is just kinda crappy.

Chasing Amy, I have more complex feelings for. It makes me cringe, but it's definitely one of Smith's more fully-realized films.

It's sacrilege, but I think Clerks II is his best film.
