The Greatest Drummers Of All Time!
by Gigwise
http://www.gigwise.com/gallery/jimmychamb-drum.jpg 5. Jimmy Chamberlin of The Smashing Pumpkins - As The Smashing Pumpkins drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin has had to deal with the walking ego that is Billy Corgan for 20 years. But he has also had to compete with him musically, bringing his jazz background into the Pumpkins heavy, melancholic sound. He is renowned for his lightning quick hands as well as his incorporation of different styles into the rock arena. A true legend of the sticks. Top 10: 1 John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) 2 Keith Moon (The Who) 3 Danny Carey (Tool) 4 Neil Peart (Rush) 5 Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins) 6 Buddy Rich (baterista de jazz em big bands) 7 Rick Allen (Def Leppard) 8 Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer e Asia) 9 Gene Krupa (baterista de jazz em big bands) 10 Phil Collins (Genesis) |

It's sad how easily people on this board fall for stupid viral marketing.

Bonham doesn't really belong on this list. I don't understand why everyone comes all over themselves for him. He's really good, but not up to Neil Peart and Carl Palmer level.

agreed about bonham. i like the sound of his drums, but the playing itself is not especially interesting. to put him at #1 seems off to me. They should bump him down and move jimmy up a notch. also, rick allen cheated; he wouldn't be on this list if he had both arms. |

What about that Zach guy from Hella or whatever... maybe not top 10 but watching him drum was one of the craziest drum-centric experiences I've ever had.

You guys need to listen some more led zep apparently.. as far as the rock drummers on that list are concerned, he's the sole reason those people drum the way they do (jimmy, neil, danny).
buddy rich should get the top spot however. |

any list without Brann Dailor and Dave Lombardo in it is pure bullshit.
That said Danny Carey and Jimmy Chamberlin both deserve to be right up there. But still underneath Bonham. |

GAH THIS LIST MAKES ME SO FUCKING ANGRY!
JOEY JORDISON ABOVE BRANN DAILOR?! ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY?! AND ITS ALL SO BADLY WRITTEN "DRUMMER X DISPLAYED THEIR DYNAMIC AND VIRTUOSIC SKILLS WITH BAND Y ON THE SONG Z TO EARN THEIR TITLE AS ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK DRUMMERS EVER!" and would someone like to tell me where the fuck Josh Freese and Tomas Haake are? |

Being an innovator doesn't make him the best. I'm not disputing that he is a really great and highly influential musician. But he is just not on the same level as some of the other people on that list. And inversely he was about a hundred times better than some of the other names listed, which also don't belong there.

Edit: Why doesn't everyone just rearrange the list the way they want it, instead of explaining who goes down two notches and who goes up one, but is still below x? I vote Chamberland to the top. Mike Garson should be number two. |

i listen to plenty of LZ, I love them. That doesn't change my opinion that bonham wasn't as interesting to listen to than many others. And yeah, i also agree that ginger baker should be in the top ten... |

bonham was capable of playing with style and taste as well as being a bombastic force.. listen to his playing on rain song, perfect drum part. also, have you seen a videotaped performance of him playing moby dick? incredible. i mean how much zep have you listened to? if you're going for the technical side of drumming, he absolutely has some tracks that can show case that.. but his musicality was top notch, which i think puts him at a higher level than most of the other drummers on that list. He ripped a lot of his playing from max roach.. which brings me to my next point--->
MAX ROACH deserves a spot on this list. |

what kind of question is that, "how much zep have you listened to?" I've been listening to them my entire 34 years of life. My 50 year old brother has been completely obsessed with them since before I was born. I was raised on that stuff, and still listen to it quite often now. Just because someone has an opinion different than yours on how much they like a certain musician doesn't mean that they haven't listened to it as much or even more than you have. Bonham is good; great even. I don't think anyone is arguing that. But I don't think he's the best drummer EVER, which is where this list places him.
