I'm not a huge Swans fan because I'm not big into post-rock and there is an element of that in there, but I absolutely understand why people like them.
Swans are SMART, what you mean by hipsters is SMART people and what you mean by hipster music is SMART music |

funny how the mention of ONE band just renders a person's opinion worthless.

what if, god forbid, art culture embraces NOFX at some point in the future? I mean a Jackass sequel was shown at the MOMA so stranger things have happened
what would you then? when the hip kids you resent so much start namechecking nofx and monkeydicks or whatever band you like |

Well you know, it's like when you meet someone and they're like "OMG I love Smashing Pumpkins"!!! And I'll be "oh yeah!? Cool! what are some of your favorite songs of theirs"? and then they're like uhhh I love 1979! and uhh.... what was that other one... that one that was on guitar hero!?"... And then it becomes clear to me that they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

Is this a good time to bring up how he thinks Katy Perryis a great singer but that Lorde is shit because it's generic pop music?

It's the same thing now with the Hipster culture... Just because I call out the majority of the idiots who are just along for the trend doesn't take away from the people who are legitimately into the music. Jimmy Kimmell did a brilliant job at exposing this very type of music fan that I'm describing on one of the segments on his show. There they are, a bunch of self proclaimed music fans, supporting the bands, going to the shows, but really not having the slightest clue about any of it. Just in it for the fad... Brilliant piece. |

Katy Perrys songs absolutely trounce Lordes material. Lordes minimalist bullshit is an obvious trend that is already dying and wont stand the test of time.

I think we're all going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
I know my opinions are unpopular, so theres really no point of me going any further explaining my opinion because it'll just be ridiculed and have people troll me even more than they already have been. |

Fuzzy is there a single thing that you've ever said that you've later felt might be wrong? Or despite all of your hypocritical views, which you have to backpedal like an Olympic athlete to hold, are you right about everything?

i always just kind of feel like the underground is the hipster culture even if they didn't necessarily call it that but keep in mind bill uses the word on siamese dream
andy warhol/velvet underground i feel is the fucking blueprint i'm pretty sure it's been around forever but only lately it's come to be this cultural epithet that's synonymous with dogshit and in some ways they're right, a lot of the values are hypocritical, superficial, daft, consumerist, gentrifying, gluten free...almost exclusively white and middle to upper class but there's unappealing values about all culture groups and individuals Last edited by Trotskilicious : 01-15-2015 at 03:28 AM. |

I just think there are people who don't fit in to regular society and are about to fucking off themselves and then they discover Punk or indie or whatever and it's like wow there are others like me.

a lot of people just like bands because their friends like it and they can go to the band's show with their friends
those people are called "popular" and some of them may be nice to you and some of them are not and are kind of douchey and then you get butthurt and start calling them HIPSTERS |
