Bleeding the Orchid was intentionally written to sound like Alice in Chains
Sounds more like a poorly done (and tasteless, if you consider the heroin underpinnings of the lyrics and the fate of AIC's singer) rip off rather than homage... just my 2 cents. Last edited by Space Girl 1979 : 03-09-2012 at 06:11 PM. |

if you are digging for negatives things to say then this is pretty weak.

huh? i knew it was an AiC tribute/ripoff right away. though i think its more of an homage to that era of music in general
i thought it was good actually. one of the better newer songs, and i am not a zeitgeist fan |

he said at the time that it was a tribute to AIC; and no, it doesn't sound anything like them. the song itself seems one of the more highly-regarded on Zeitgeist and whilst i think it could have been promising i've never really liked it.

another zeitgeist song that has potential and moments of brilliance peeking through, but ultimately falls hard due to production, mix, vocals

yep. the bolly choir at the beginning followed by dry as fuck vocals with no emotion
all of the parts of the song are good. lyrics aren't even bad. music is p good. but put it all together and it verges on pile of shit |

cool story
it's not exactly a secret that this song was sort of a tribute to aic and to bc's generation in general. i actually like this song too. |

There was an interview around the time of Zeitgeist where he talked about this song. He said that AIC was a band that he sort of overlooked at the time they were around and that in hindsight they were one of the best bands of the grunge era and that they had a lot of depth to their sound musically and lyrically. He said it was a sort of tribute to them and to Layne. There's nothing tasteless about it.

yeah i feel that. I hated them at the time but compared to bands i liked in hindsight, they were a step ahead
i still don't really want to listen to the lamentations of a heroin junkie |

Has Layne responded to this from the afterlife?

b0lly also said once that this song is about how the bands of the 90s failed because they had the chance to change the model through which music is made and didn't

Like most of Zeitgeist, good music, awful vocals.
If he'd just give up the terrible vibrato he tries to instill into every held note, his vocals would sound so much better. |

wow i hadn't listened to anything from zeitgeist in ages. it actually sounds worse than i remembered. perhaps it was well liked at the time because it was one of the least offensive songs on the album? anyway like everybody said the music itself isn't bad its just... everything else.
