been thinking about seeing Marr live in October but I don't really like his solo stuff

it'd be like a $15 show

I think the other 2 members are underrated if just for the Barbarism Begins at Home bassline alone

then there's the drums on London that make the whole song

I don't mind his latest album but his lyrics really show a lack of focus.

probably one of the most annoying things I have had to endure recently is my "friend" getting into the smiths at age 29 and trying to lecture me on morrissey's ideology, sexuality, etc like omg dude shut the fuck up I learned this stuff when we were in 10th grade and you were wearing a panic at the disco shirt to school

Because it's fascinating. Billy's nuts, the people that post here are nuts, so it makes for entertaining reading.

I kind of agree with this in reference to the songs you mentioned

the obnoxious dude who just got into the smiths was insisting to me the other day though that the smiths the cure and joy division sound "practically the same" and I was just like omg please die now

JD Smiths Cure form kinda like a holy triangle in the most general sense

Joy Division "standard" post punk

The Cure romantic gothic punk

Smiths New Wave/Indie

I think if you're going that broad you might as well throw in REM and the Police

they are similar in a broad sense, have some common influences, and they all share a lot of musical sensibilities in terms of what was hip in that time period

Smiths count as new wave? I'd peg The Cure as closer to new wave than The Smiths.
