What's the deal with this show, again? It peaked around the season 3 or 4 finale, right? I hear conflicting things. The "Lithgow season" is supposed to be the best. What would you say is the best stretch to watch? I saw the first episode and a random one from season 5 and was not impressed, but my friends are incessant in their persuasion

I mean every season/episode is completely retarded but it gets progressively more so
I had to bail during the lithgow season because it was starting to drive me nuts Apparently the 6th season feature Colin hanks of all terrible actors as the main big bad which makes me glad I quit Karl Connor summed up the best part of the show in his second post anyway |

i would at least try to get through the first two seasons, just to try it out. even if you decide to quit right there, its genuinely good tv.
after that things get spotty. season 3 was unneccesary, but season 4 (the john lithgow season) is arguably the best one. season 5 and six was when it became a self parody. just kind of ridiculous all around even if the show was never cutting edge reality to begin with. but if you make it that far youre invested with the characters enough to kind of tune the badness out. The first season and the Lithgow season were the best. The third season and last season were the worst. I have *some* hope for this season just because they finally played the card we'd all been waiting for in the last season finale, but I bet momentum fades out quickly. Won't be as bad as the last two seasons of Weeds, though.

I started typing my above post before Order 66 typed this:
Quote:
I think 3 is the worst because its the one season that if you completely deleted it from the show, you wouldn't know it was gone. 4 could start literally the day after 2. Same is kinda true of 6 minus the season finale big reveal. Mos Def was paaaaaainful. |

season 1 is the best by far. some great moments, like the one in that hotel (avoiding spoilers...)
season 4 is good two and three above average last two are pretty bad but, yeah, i'm invested so i'll watch. five kinda pissed me off tbh. i mean in theory the plot should have appealed to someone like me (wish fulfillment) but i found it to be shallow and the ending was shit. the acting gets worse throughout all seasons; less so with the main character than everyone else, but still. six is just... bad Last edited by reprise85 : 09-30-2012 at 05:56 PM. |

The first is based on a novel so it has an interesting plot, I think following seasons rely on characters and it gets a bit soap opera-ish.
I skipped season three on the advice of others, I watched the first couple of episodes and then couldn't stand it. Watched season four a couple of years later because it had John Lithgow in it, and enjoyed it, season five was awful. Might watch season six or seven if someone convinces me it's not a total waste of time. |

Six is pretty meh but it ends with the event we all knew the show would have to have at some point, and the promos for seven make it look like the fallout from that will be the main plot. So that's... something.

I didn't get the cancelled credit card thing either
end of the first episode was good. Overall I'm glad they went in the direction they did this season. the series has lasted a couple seasons too long. watching everything fall apart for Dexter would be interesting. Also, last season they turned Deb into a sniveling mess. I hated that. Maybe now she'll grow some balls. |

Bumping this thread
Kind of like this season. They found a way to do something different. Deb is still annoying. |

hey why did the discussion stop
i got around to watching the first two episodes last night. excellent first episode, fairly thrilling because it was unusually fast paced. i wasn't expecting them to draw out the serial killer confession at until the show had reached mid-season, at least. i was all like http://forums.netphoria.org/wwwboard/icons/icon11.gif so i played the second episode straight away and boy, did the crappiness just come slapping in my face. again with the waddling secondary plots (russian mob? jesus), horrendous writing and holes in the story (i.e how his child is only occasionally and conveniently brought up in the show). this will probably be another awful season with maybe a few redeeming final episodes |

i like when the russian mob boss asked 'what about the dead cop?' over the phone. like a professinal hitman would talk like that. anyway i think the season is ok despite the russian stuff. what are the chances they'd cross paths with that black cop. whatever

episode 3 is god awful
it's like 50 minutes of "next time on dexter..." there's no substance at all. the sub plot is ridiculous. if you're going to have people being double agents they have to you know, go through time to feel out who they can trust, not just be like hey so they want me to fuck you over but i liek you i mean they need to tease those things out what the hell is this really what dexter has become not only is it a soap opera, it's a really bad one 1st season 4 lyfe |

I'll finally start watching this, since people keep talking like I've missed something.
So am I understanding this right - I'll better watch only season 1? Are they all tied together or can I just watch the best episodes? |
