Black Eyed Peas put out two albums as a conscious rap / native tongues style group. 30 Seconds To Mars were a progressive rock band for one album before they went in a pop direction.

Peter Gabriel also went from prog rock / art rock to pop but with him it was a gradual change that occured over five albums.
Sugar Ray went from this:

To this:

Over the course of like 6 months.

I was just trying to show him that it took Black Eyed Peas longer to sell out than it took 30 Seconds to Mars.

That second clip from Sugar Ray is from like two albums later

No it's not.

Lemonade and Brownies (1995) was there first and only metal album.
Floored (1997) was the second album that had Fly on it.

They went into the studio a metal band and came out some sort of pop crap reggae monstrosity.

On rateyourmusic.com Floored is tagged as funk metal and rap rock and nu-metal. I've never heard it. I remember Fly. I'm wondering if there are other songs on the album that sound nothing like Fly.

Even on Wikipedia it's tagged as nu-metal.

Yeah, Fly is pretty much the only song on the album of that ilk... Theres definitely a nu-metal flavor on several tracks... Theres also a few in the same vein of Mean Machine...

The 2nd single off of that record was a heavier rock song... It's actually pretty cool.

I love the part of the song that kicks in around the 2:20 mark.

I know where you're coming from about Paramore but I can't hate on them. I think they're pretty much the only A-list rock band right now who have any personality, and they have a connection with their fans that is comparable to the connection we had with SP in their heyday. They're good kids. Even if the "band" is basically a facade and Hayley is the only one with a record deal.

Also there are only two songs of theirs that I completely like, Decode (aka the Twilight song) and Conspiracy. I honestly think those are two of the best alternative rock songs of the 2000s. They have a darker edge than the rest of the band's material and it really suits them. I wish they'd write more songs like that. The other stuff is catchy and I guess legitimately alternative but it's a bit sugary for my taste. The last single was pretty cringeworthy.

they were horrible when they were trying to be punk but now that they dropped that pretense theyre basically one of the greatest pure pop bands in existence

and i know you say stuff like great pop hooks aren't enough for you but they have more than that
listen up to like 1:45 into that song when the synths kick in and how dreamy it gets
that's probably more to ken andrews' credit than actual paramore but i don't give a f uck. i mean i'm pretty sure hailey is actually playing the synths anyway
