Finding Dory 9/10 will have to see again to see if it tops "Up" but might be my all time fave CGI movie aimed at kids
Alien 3 (2003 Assembly Cut) - 7/10 vast improvement over theatrical. Could begin to see where Fincher would have gone if he'd been able. Theres a ton more content, and all of it is indispensable, IMO. Most of it provides much-needed characterization/humanization of the prisoners, so they become something more than lunch. In fact, their (and--spoilers--Ripleys) sacrifice only makes sense in this version. A much more satisfying conclusion to the franchise. Recommend to any serious alien fan that hasn't seen it |

The last movie I saw was "Entertainment" starring Gregg Turkington. I found it to be entertaining, I give it 5 bags of popcorn and 2 diet sodas.

The Purge: Election Year
These Purge movies are actually decent. Subtlety is not their strong suit: if they weren't so heavy-handed and clunky with the subject matter they would define sublime. As is, they're entertaining romps with an unfortunately disturbing political and socioeconomic twist that makes them relevant and somewhat insightful in this day and age. Also, Frank Grillo is a badass. B |

The Star Trek and the Beyond: The Pegging
*minor spoilers* After seeing this, my buddy correctly pointed out that, for the third straight movie, the writers resorted to using a villain with a grudge against the Federation as the driving force behind the plot. And quite frankly, it made the movie feel a bit tired. Sure it's got good action, some very creative effects, acting, and the camaraderie between the crewmates is of course stellar. And to my utter astonishment, Justin Lin actually did a solid job behind the director's chair (so he CAN, in fact, do something other than crank out Fast and the Furious movies). But the lack of creativity behind the plot elements of these Star Trek reboot movies is starting to take its toll. I hope that the next movie will go in a unique direction and feature something besides another cartoonish villain as the movie's driving force (shit, I'd love to see the Borg in these new Trek movies, and yes I am aware they are from The Next Generation. I don't care). The fact that they are resorting to bringing back Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk somehow for the next movie doesn't give me a lot of hope. Also, R.I.P. Anton Yelchin. You were a good Chekov. Still, it's a damn pretty movie. C+ |

Ghostbusters 4.5/5 cans of
Faithful to the spirit of the established ghostbusters universe but thoroughly new and exciting. I especially enjoyed the introduction of new weaponry; the old "proton pack to floor trap" routine needed an update. The visuals were spectacular and notably evoked the style of the cartoon as much as the earlier movies. |

Don't Breathe
Pretty messed up. Not really anyone to root for in this movie. It is well-made and intense, though. Stephen Lang is one scary motha. B- |

The Jungle Book (2016) - 4/5
I really wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Bill Murray as Baloo was perfect. |

Don't Breathe - 4/5
I really enjoyed this. Kept me tense the whole way through. It suffers from some conventions of the slasher genre (characters not running away when they clearly could, taking forever to get up when they are still clearly in danger, not killing the killer when they have a chance, etc) but otherwise it was solid fun. |

Holy Hell. 7. Decent but amateurish documentary on a cult type thing about a Liberace type religious leader who wore gold hot pants and fucked boyz. Not as dark and depressing as I'd hoped.

The Shallows - 2/5
This film literally and figuratively jumps the shark in it's final third. What was a somewhat tense atmospheric survival tale becomes an action extravaganza with one liners and an unexplained explosion. That said, I had some fun with it. |

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows - 2/5
I thought it was slightly funnier and more entertaining than the first, but still miles away from being any good. |

Ex Machina - Twas cool. The ending was nice, especially how Ava used the weakling. Also liked how it's a reinterpretation of the Eve story (she uses Adam, kills God, escapes Eden).
Turtles - Disappointment. No Shredder in full glory (wtf) and the opening Megan Fox scene was so shameless it was almost... good? OK maybe I wasn't that disappointed after all. |

The Jungle Book is really good? I stopped a minute in. I think I might give it another try though I do have impossibly high standers, being a devotee of Kipling. Kim pwns.
