they're called mid level providers and they are going to take over. NPs and PAs. just like LMHCs and MFTs have taken over therapy. i'd still rather see a psychologist that actually has research training and is used to more severe cases but that doesn't mean they are any better at therapy in the end
if i wanted to just do therapy i'd go for masters level in a heartbeat. it makes sense. but i want to do forensic which is largely assessment and brief interventions and you need a PhD for that
