jibbery joy division clones

Cmon

Problem with Black Flag is Henry Rollins is a jock masquerading as a Punk and that's what I've always heard in the music.

He says so much stupid bullshit I can't even.

If you think Black Flag = Rollins you're a fool. And if you think that punk isn't 80% just jocks with Marx readers you're a fool.

I agree with the first part disagree with the second

Some of Black Flag's stuff can be enjoyable 100% despite Rollins

Jell-O is not a Jock. He's a theater kid with a lisp that he got bullied for it

Edit: Wait 80%. I probably listen to the 20% that isn't

Keep telling yourself this. One day you'll turn around and realise that 99% of the people who make the music you like are people you would never, ever want to socialise with.

an issue i've been noticing and kind of been dancing around here and there is that there is definitely a cultural line in the sand where exploring music was very much once a history assignment and you learned about the cultural context behind the music as well as the music itself.

now everything is just a click away and it exists in every timeline.

not saying one is good or one is bad but holy hell if the internet was like it is today when i was a teenager i would have burned through so much music who knows where i would be at today

just to clarify a little w/out editing: it used to stand where you would listen to a band and if you really loved them you would start to learn about their influences that came before. eventually that would lead you to the start of music (or at least music for you).

now i don't feel that happens at all. or if it does it is very traditional and rare, almost from a purest attitude.

idk not concrete thoughts but just shooting the shit

Rollins says great stuff sometimes but he does say incredibly stupid bullshit a lot (his thoughts on robin williams suicide are breathtakinly ignorant)

But hes not all that different than moz in this regard

Totes had the music forum page zoomed in so it looked like the thread could have said "you think soundgarden affected no age's success?"

I def listen to music like this, it's important for me to know the influences and the context of the bands I listen to so I can fully understand where they're coming from. I love music history and get a real kick out of learning about that stuff.

But it does seem uncommon among the people I know, but I don't know if that's a young person thing or just a general people don't care about music as much as me thing.

For example, The fall led me to garage rock like The Monks and Krautrock like Faust because those were the type of bands Marky obsessed over
