I pretty much agree but I'm not into comparing guitarists because what matters is if the songs as a whole are good and most of the bands I like I couldn't even tell you the name of the guitarist or they had more than one guitarist or they changed guitarists constantly

I have met guitar players that are probably just as if not more technically proficient as Slash but they weren't really creative and had shit tastes and so who cares they'll never do anything beyond covers at boring bars

yeah I know what you mean. there are many different measures of a guitarist. It's a bit frustrating though because the majority of guys in "guitar culture" seem to be boneheads whose lists are exactly what I said, top electric blues rock guitarist virtuosos... and that leaves out so many important musicians who did really creative and innovative things but are not recognized because they can't or don't engage in histrionic pentatonic freakouts after every chorus in a song.

I mean these days cultural memory of this shit doesn't even encompass someone like Buddy Guy, who is one of the most supreme American electric blues guitarists... but he wasn't in a cock rock band between 1965 and 1989 sooooo

I was all fucked up, rocking out at a GNR show about 3 or 4 years ago about 5 or 6 rows back on the floor and center. I'm just rocking out and Axl stops a song, seemingly points right at me and says :"HEY MOTHER FUCKER!!! YEAH YOU!" I'm looking around like oh shit, what did I do... and he's like "Get this mother fucker OUTTA here" and it literally seemed like he was talking right at me, but the security guard comes in and pulls this brown guy like 2 rows ahead of me out... Apparently he was being rough or fighting or some shit, and as he's getting pulled out Axl Goes "See ya later KUUUUMAAAAAR!!!"

I saw this band as openers in a now-defunct hole in the wall bar literally a month before i noticed they kinda blew up with their songs everywhere. They were good and I'd still rather listen to the EP they were slingin' for $5 than GNR

you know I've recently checked out some live stuff from Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins, Eddie Money...


you'd think much of that would be cringe worthy, but its quite the opposite if you enjoy outstanding overall musicianship.

the 70's live musician was by and large a bad ass, no matter the genre.
