Red face

I wasn't considering dropping my responsibilities to fly out to this for the day, but I see now that I could catch both the Health and Wellness committee meeting and the Timpani Mock Audition final round after Jimmy's clinic.

Whoever decided pianos should be in the percussion category must be just laughing away in Hell. Can we stop pretending drums and pianos have anything to do with each other? "Oh, you see, it's because when you press a piano key it hits the string with a little ha—" No. Fuck you. Out of my face. A harp is just a sideways piano and you don't call that percussion. Yeah I hit the harp, I hit it with my fingers. Explain that one, moron.

Awaiting Mr Chamberlin

A post shared by Ram Dent (@ramdent2) on

well that was fuckin cool. He played 3 JCC songs, Geek, Tonight, then a new song he wrote called 'The Crucible' that he played drums/guitar/piano on. One of his solo tracks sounds a lot like Pale Scales and I deadass thought he was doing Pale Scales

-His main topic was identity on the drums. He's talked about this in other interviews and I know this because I'm crazy. Fav quote of the day: “You’ll never be me and I’ll never be you”

-He said that they haven't been playing to a click for SP stuff lately. but it's so slowww

-he has a new little...weird tiny hihat thingy between the rack toms and snare. never seen anything like it

-he said the phrase "my partner and I Billy Corgan" which I thought was...I dunno, noteworthy

-After Geek, he said 'Being a part of the narrative [of the song] allows you to play as much crazy shit as you want'

-'Corgan and I come up with funny little working titles...we still call them that in the road and everyone gets confused'

-re:hihat tempo clicking: it allows you to break up the right hand & play a quarter note pulse, be more expressive. Corgan was a big fan of it early on

-listening back to his part on Geek, he thought ‘why am i stomping on the hihat endlessly?!’ Lately he's been trying to get away from using the left foot as a crutch to keep time

__________

[gay shit] He has a beaming smile and easy stride [/gay shit]

lol that's actually the only track i didn't record. it felt vaguely shitty to do, in a way.

i have video of soundcheck [lol i went backstage and was about to try to talk to jimmy before they kicked me out], streetcrawler, like 30 seconds of the song i thought was pale scales, geek, tonight, and a little clip of him talking about the hihat/ride phrasing in the cherub rock verses

Thanks for the report! Shame on you for not capturing the Crucible though, you lose marks for that

What's that next to Jimmy's snare drum?...looks like a splash cymbal but thicker. Maybe some sort of bell?
