Question have we talked about the new deathcab yet?

after reading this from my buddy, i'm suddenly intrigued. in a bad way.

"I dl'd the new one, and the second song really hooked me.... but now I'm in the throes of the rest of the album, which sucks so bad. I feel like I'm suddenly 35, wearing J.Crew, sipping coffee in Starbucks, pondering life and wondering which preschool to enroll my daughter in and how the oil crisis will affect her children's children. "

I like the first track but the rest was just not grabbing my attention at all.

That being said I don't really like too much of this band, it's weird there are songs here and there that I really love but I can't get into them as an album group.

i want new postal service

bixby canyon bridge and grapevine fires are my favorite two, then your new twin sized bed.

thing about those songs is that some of the imagery is really compelling, but it's carried in this really benignly sounding package, and sometimes i'll find myself checking out of the song and and lost in my own thoughts, meanwhile my favorite parts of the song passed by and i didn't even notice.

those two songs though i'm really enjoying a lot.

Plans is one of the best records released in the last few years imo, its super intelligent and has only a few weak spots that the record could have lived without.
downloading the new record now, cant wait to listen
although i must say, all that talk about the new 'lunar' sound dont sound all that great...
i mean, the best thing about death cab so far was their urban, sunday-afternoonish sound

I've only listened to the album through twice but I just find it incredibly boring. there isn't really much that makes me want to come back to it. I've been a fan of all their other stuff, especially the Photo Album and We Have the Facts... but this one just hasn't done it for me at all.

Pretty much, and I have really tried to get into them but halfway through an album I just get sort of disinterested.

whatever the single is sounds like they took an incubus song and swapped the death cab guy's vocals in

i was talking about this. in case you don't know, Chris Walla is the bass player.

Walla said, "I'm really excited about it. It's really got some teeth. The landscape of the thing is way, way more lunar than the urban meadow sort of thing that has been happening for the last couple of records."[18] Walla also adds that the album is "louder and more dissonant and... abrasive." They claim that they were influenced by heavy metal music and "synth-punk band Brainiac."[18]

im listening to the album in pieces, as i always do with a new album, and i have to say i like what im hearing. the new sound is kind of radiohead-in rainbows-ish, tight drums, lots of subtle overdriven instruments, unprocessed vocals.
great production overall, everything is really in tune and tight but still rather loose.
the songs sound good, the only thing that kind of bugged me so far was the vocal melodies.
i mean, although they're decent, they sound like most of them have been improved over the songs and they dont come off as very thoughtful melodies.

ok, i'm almost done with this thing now.

this album is simultaneously making me feel lazy and giving me the intense urge to GoGreen!

long division sounds like a rehash of something off the photo album.

For me the album was a disappointment except songs like Cath..., I Will Possess Your Heart and Your New Twin Sized Bed...but most of the album seems like a lukewarm rebrew. Especially disappointing after the greatness of "Plans".

Fuck, I've seen them a total of 15 times. The ex was a huge fan so I went to pretty much every show in the Seattle, Vancouver, Portland area.

Only dragged her to two Billy and two Pumpkins shows in that time.
