worth noting that in 5 days the NIN track has almost completely caught up to the view count of Being Blegh

I'm really enjoying the new EP. The last album I loved from front to back was With Teeth. After that, it was hit or miss for me. Though anything post-With Teeth pisses all over anything post-Machina.

Do I think the song title is a sly dis aimed at Billy? I'm not 100% sure. Lyrically, I just don't see it. Plus, looking at the credits for this EP makes me think possibly these tracks are reworked leftovers or at least contain bits from leftover material. Dave Navarro worked with Trent around The Downward Spiral era and his guitar work is featured on the Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now) reworking from Further Down The Spiral. Dave Grohl played drums on several tracks from With Teeth. Plus I think the title of the EP alludes to these tracks being reworked leftovers. A play off the saying "Based on actual events." If this is older material being rewritten and reworked by the Trent of today, hence "Not the actual events." These songs have more in common with older NIN than his later material. But who knows.

Other than the title (and that's vague) I don't get what about this song is mocking SP?

Still don't get the Being Beige hate.

Soon you will when it becomes apparant to you that our hatred for Being Beige also extends tp the plp who listen to Being Beige. Then you will come to a deeper understanding of our hatred, as it is made manifest in you.

I'd be surprised if Trent's given BC two thoughts since the Starfuckers video.

That said The Fragile 2017 sounds fucking awesome and those new outtakes on the Deviations set are great.

Years ago met an NIN fan who said With Teeth was his favorite album and The Fragile his least. Pretty much a way to out yourself as a moron. Any album featuring lyrical gems such as "I got my arms flip flop flip" and "I'm a good boy and I will swallow it all" and "awithateethah" sucks. Only redemption is the last three songs. But the album is a true low point in his songwriting.

Year Zero is a masterpiece...last half of the album is so apocalyptic and that album was birthed from Trent realizing WT sucks though, so it can stay.

New EP is great, lots of Fragile leftovers in the album. Mostly in She's Gone and Idea of You.

Fragile's prob my favorite NiN record, but i like With Teeth

& i mean, complaining about NiN lyrics on a particular record isn't really a great way of going about ranking them - i like it for the textures/melodies, mainly

I agree. The album is basically Trent trying to find his feet after getting sober. I remember my first reaction when it came as being "oh look...another album about how Trent hates himself *yawn*". He bounced back better than ever though.

With Teeth (the song) and Sunspots are okay though. The album is NIN's Zeitgeist.

But still much better than Zeitgeist.

Whatever, I like that album... though I do hate Everyday Is Exactly The Same. Been a fan since Pretty Hate Machine. The Downward Spiral is my fave.

But Beside You In Time is one of his best tracks. I saw them live twice during the With Teeth era, once at Madison Square Garden with Death From Above 1979 and Queens Of The Stone Age. NIN did an awesome live rendition of Beside You In Time. Such a great show. I've seen them live 5 times (twice during With Teeth, Lights In The Sky tour, NINJA tour with Jane's Addiction, and Wave Goodbye tour) and they've always put on a solid show.

I really hate how people discount his lyrics. I really enjoy a lot of his lyrics. Right Where it Belongs, for example, hits a great lyrical note and musical.

He's writing better lyrics than Billy has in the last 15+ years

NIN hasn't done anything halfway decent since the Fragile and even that was an inconsistent record. Take this shit to the NIN forum Reznor fags.

Hey look, you didn't even know this
Couldn't even tell
Just when it started... happening
Maybe just as well
After all, everything is getting unfamiliar now
Trajectory in decline
And we've become obsolete
A frame at a time

I'm locked inside here
Have to stay
With people who aren't here
All the way

What about the rest of the song?

[Left channel:]
Dear world, I can hardly recognize you anymore
And yet I remain certain
There is an answer in you
I feel like I have lived so long sometimes
Run out of things to try to do
I can't concentrate my way out
What about?...
I have been entirely patient
No, no, not this time

[Right channel:]
I am leaving because I can't recognize who I have been
You go on spoiling
Hey look, it's happening
Without me you didn't even notice
Of course it's been happening all along, permanent intervals
As you become obsolete, who are you?
Oh this place...
I can't concentrate
I begin to go through another of that we have been
But I know I can't trust myself with this again

Not bothered by these lyrics.

Billy Corgan wrote about banging his drum 'til his dying day in one of the most cringeworthy songs ever written.

Those additional lyrics are clunky and more of that forced, ethereal wishy-washy stuff he pulls when he can't thoughtfully or gracefully articulate what it is he's trying to say.

Corgan's recent lyrics suck too.

Reading them now, they're not terrible. If Reznor wrote them, they would be:

I turn the engine
and take the wheel
The light is darkness
like how I feel

Come on try a little
nothing is forever
My feelings are brittle
I become the never

EVERYONE GATHER AROUND YOURSELF
EVERYONE GATHER AROUND YOURSELF
EVERYONE GATHER AROUND YOURSELF
YOURSELF EVERYONE EVERYONE

lyrical gold from the Billster

Don't forget Billy's frequent discussions about his weird fetishes "my love is strange"

Trent wrote the lyrics to Hurt and Right where it belongs so tbh I couldn't really give a fuck about what a bunch of jaded Pumpkins fans think about his lyrical prowess, considering the lyrics on those two songs actually mean something
