best Low album
there are so many good ones! I mean golly.
I probably like Trust most, but I'm really not sure if that's the best one. Things we lost in the fire, the great destroyer, the Songs for a dead pilot EP, even the new one Ones and Sixes is great. how about your worthless opinion, lesser human? |

Extremely tough band to do this with. I reckon Things We Lost In The Fire is probably my fav, I could Live In Hope, Great Destroyer, Curtain Hits The Cast and C'mon are my most heavily played, but they really don't have any "bad" records and each album has at least one amazing song on it.
Fantastic band. Saw em last year and they closed with a cover of "Let's Stay Together" and Mimi singing Al Green gave me life. |

After a lot of thinking, I Could Live In Hope wins. Things We Lost In The Fire is just as amazing, but ICLIH has more nostalgic and emotional value for me. I don't think Low has made one bad record, ever.

The Great Destroyer, but apparently I need to go back and listen to Things We Lost In The Fire some more.

I feel weird ranking it beside their other albums cause it's so different, like comparing Skeleton Tree to other Nick Cave albums
but fuck man, Double Negative really is one of those rare, transcendent things. It recontextualises everything they've done before. It's absolutely singular. I feel like one of the primary narratives of alternative music in the last 30-40 years has been the amalgamation of electronic/experimental and more traditional elements into something else as an expression of the cultural phase shift as we're ripped from the natural world into the upstream of technology and the internet. Many people point towards Kid A as perhaps the defining statement of such a thing, a band who started as a traditional guitar band embracing fully the potentiality of computers as a tool for art, but I feel like this trumps it. Compared to Radiohead, Low's roots stretch further back into the vaunted traditions of guitar music, invoking the ghosts blues and country music, and their branches now stretch deeper and harder into the bleeding edges of postmodern music, of texture and noise and dissonance as signifiers of physicality and emotionality. It's like it circumvents a centuries worth of popular music as the unfolding and directly marries the primal elements, the alpha and omega points suspended in a superposition that is both at once, into something that has sincerely never been achieved before. |
