yeah music like that is almost entirely dependent on vocals/lyrics. you can find a million dudes to write those chords and play them on acoustic guitar, but his voice is very unique. chad vangaalen's soft airplane is like that too. dudes voice saves that album.

this grouper is okay so far. paavoharju and child readers put out similar albums this year which i think are better.

up those

i always felt dylan had a certain swagger that made his voice charming. the tallest man on earth guy doesnt have that same charisma. i do like that album, but its not something i feel like revisiting.

wow someone mentioned american gothic

american gothic is the first sp-related release i have no intention to ever hear

the new grouper album is really good i think. bit repetitive and not as interesting as the last but there are some fantastic songs on it.

for some reason i think the new silver jews album is ok and also that vetiver covers album. weird.

lindstrøm- where you go i go too
blank dogs- on two sides
low motion disco- keep it slow

and i'm ambivalent about the rest since i haven't heard much of what's out there anyway. yearbook 2 by studio wasn't bad. mostly i'm looking forward to saint dymphna after having heard a few tracks.

I listened to the Lindstrom one a long car ride last week after not listening to it for a while. i'm not sick of any of it, it still sounds super fresh after listening to it a ton

ive had mega breakfast on my computer for a while, i think thats there latest chap album. i gave it a listen when i first got it and it just came off as really poppy and generic. havent listened to it since. i listened to a little of child readers the other day but only got through a couple of songs, ill listen to more of it this week.

im listening to the new tv on the radio right now and im pretty sure i just dont like this band. maybe its the vocals or something but ive just never gotten why people like them so much. listened to the kings of leon record last night, liked it.

Hi, Julio. Just the other day I half-assedly looked at his website to see if he had any projects on the horizon, as I hadn't heard his name in a long time. I somehow didn't manage to come up with the information that he had a new album coming out. What's it called? You like it pretty well?

While I'm here, I suppose I'll update my favorites:

Sam Amidon - All Is Well
Nat Baldwin - MVP
Thee Oh Sees - The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In
Xiu Xiu - Women As Lovers (I've listened to this on and off since it came out, but just this week I'm starting to really like it, especially "i do what i want, when i want"
Sic Alps - U.S. EZ
Blank Dogs - On Both Sides
Justus Kohncke - Safe and Sound
Ellen Allien - Sool
Matmos - Supreme Balloon (parts of this kinda suck, but overall it's enjoyable)
Beach House - Devotion (not great but I've had some good moments with it on)

I guess the Lindstrøm is ok, but overall it's not really doing too much for me yet.

Also, the Gas and Basic Channel reissues are fantastic.

Here's the new Max Tundra, matt:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/f16yex

Yeah I'm enjoying. its more poppy than some best friend. It's a little fey and cloy at times but its good in moderate doses. I didn't know Oh Sees had an album out this year. I gotta get on top of that. I really liked cool death of island raiders

Thanks for the link. The new Thee Oh Sees is good, and I definitely like Cool Death of Island Raiders, but by far my favorite release of theirs is Sucks Blood from last year. It's really one of my favorite albums to come out in a long long time. It took several listens for it to really sink in, but since then, I've been listening to it at least once a week for a year straight. I have a really difficult time putting my finger on what makes it so incredibly compelling and affecting to me. I mean, the songs themselves are great, but something about the way it was recorded and produced really brings the album to transcendent level. Maybe I'm gushing too much, but I really connected with it a lot.

nah. thats how i feel about cool death of island raiders. the production is very evocative. i guess. are you a fan of natural snow buildings? I dont blame anyone if they find them boring and not wanting to trudge through 40 minutes of droning, but speaking of transcendent music, these guys do it for me. they put out 3 albums this year alone to my knowledge and i like them all a lot.
