I'm a horror pussy. unless it's some totally ridiculous blood splatter nonsense (and therefor funny to me) I can't even watch it alone... but I'm trying!

I just hate the trying to make you jump moments which frankly i think is just kinda lame and too easy to resort to. Especially in a theater where you can't escape the screen and sound, you WILL fucking jump even if you knew it was coming and it's not even particularly a scary scene. I have this technique now where when i know it's coming, i look at a corner of the screen.. You can sorta still see what happens but without focusing on it so half the time i don't jump.

Yeah jump scares make horror movies not fun at all. It's just cheap.

I love everything horror but I don't like being subjected to basically a steady stream of those screamer e-mails people used to send

I haven't even tried to see any "jumpy" film in a theater for over a decade.

since Hannibal. that was so utterly embarrassing. dinner before the film, and then comes this scene where they open his head with a scalpel, and I had to leave, thought I'd puke in the cinema.

A good tense psychological horror film is hard to come by these days

I think horror novels are so much better at getting the right type of scare

that's the script that's different from the movie except for one scene, right?

why do you ask?

They are the funniest, craziest, most outrageous films I have ever seen in my entire life and they have to be judged unto themselves. You can’t compare them to conventional films. They always make me laugh harder than I have ever laughed. They always make me gasp in either shock or disgust. They illicit so many raw emotions.

Giuseppe is a pure artist. He lives to create. He sees the creation when it’s done as irrelevant to him, that’s what’s fascinating to me. And it is not an act. It is not pretence. This is exactly who he really is. He just loves the act of creating his art more than anything in the world. If five people see it, he’s just has happy if 1,000 people see it. He just doesn’t care other than the act of creating. I think that’s what makes him a pure artist.

it's not odd to me, but I think Adam Underdog Rifkin is a joke, so...

but it wasn't my intention to start an argument over the quality of something you apparently enjoy - and I simply don't.

i've been pretty open on the board that i really have no real taste for cinema. definitely a dilettante.

95% of movies i watch is used as a means to fall asleep.

I enjoy eating, I couldn't care less that I'm an haute cuisine dilettante.

(that's the worst comparison I managed, I'm proud of myself.)

i guess i'm just curious about where the kneejerk reaction came from - this is all new to me for the most part. i mean i have my fair share of hipster made vhs tapes but this seems to be very next next level compared to that.

I just wanted to use that word, since I never do.

the kneejerk reaction comes from having spent too much time with a bunch of art school students praising how "bold" and whatnot Guiseppe Andrews stuff is. the same people calling masterpieces "outdated" - Hitchcock for example.
I had these little fucks sitting in my living room, arguing why they never even watched a single Hitchcock film, but know all about "Guiseppe."

I remember one of those 20somethings said David Lynch is "just a director" but Guiseppe is "a true artist - and he does everything himself, muti-talent!" I hate these people.

i wasn't addressing that at all. i had just never heard of the director until recently so i was curious about someone who already had an opinion on them

I watched Toad Road last night. I enjoyed it. Not sure if I can recommend it though. It's a really slow burn indie horror/thriller. Normally I would hate this type of film but this one worked for me for some reason.
