Unhappy so I finally watched Requiem for a Dream (movie thread)

everyone was telling me it was a really terrifying movie and shit, as in, just hard to stomach.
so i kinda avoided watching it for a pretty long time because i knew itd get me real depressed (i have that way with sad movies, especially drug movies).
so the other day i was really depressed and felt like hurting myself so i watched it.
its one of the saddest movies i have ever seen. and indescribably good.
just grabs you by the heart, but its truly painful to watch at some points.

The first time I ever watched that movie my friend ran out of the room and drove away 'cause it offended him so much.

aronofsky(sp?) is a crazy filmmaker. Pi is also a unique and brilliant movie, i think i prefer it in the long run. requiem isn't really a film, its more like a feature length version of any of those tv commercials that are packed with shock tactics to stop you from drinking/smoking/driving too fast etc. its just a donkey punch for your brain.

im not sure if you meant that as a negative comment but i really disagree.
its so much more than a d.a.r.e commercial, its a story about four people and shattered dreams , and about how cruel people can be to each other.
its fairly explicit at times but i think its just rooted within the story, its not necessarily a moral for people to be brainwashed with

i read on imdb.com that during the scene that sara goldfarb is giving that passionate monologue about growing old the cameraman couldnt go on and just left the camera on and went to the side to cry.
when they edited the movie the director asked him why there's a certain minor fuckup on the shot and when he found out the story he kept that take in the final print
what a great story

i really loved watching him act on requiem when the last movie i saw him in was american psycho. he played paul allen on that, i think

you'll probably dig him more if you learn he was schizophrenic, started out fairly sane with his stuff but as he got crazier it just went into fractals and chaos everywhere.. pretty fucking cool if you match it with the mental progression.

yeah she is cute...

i didnt really care for him when he played paul allen either...though he didn't play all that big of a role in american psycho, he didn't really stand out

i didnt mean he stood out, it was just strange watching him in such different roles.
i think his success as paul allen in that movie really had more to do with the directing\camerawork\lights\makeup.
the entire movie had a very distinct, clean, yuppy feel and he just slid right in there.
man i love american psycho

i love that movie.... it's terribly depressing... so very realistic...

everytime i watch that movie, it reminds me of my odd grandma who had excessive shock treatment for depression... =(

what a great story

no, they talk about it on the commentary

the camera man was crying while shooting the scene and the camera viewfinder thing got fogged up so thats why the shot of her talking is not centered

What disturbed me was the underlying theme more than anything. The point they were ultimately trying to make. How we all can become so hopeless and cling onto anything these days. It's just sad.
