never thought about this.

one time i heard bill in an interview absent mindedly alluding to the band as "this big metal machine" or something like that, and it kind of landed then that the song is about the band becoming this heavy cumbersome juggernaut that's so far removed from their who they were in their youth. this lyric definitely reflects that as well.

i guess the power of the band made it tolerable live, as good as any other dumb rock song. but in the studio this song was never any less than a catastrophic disaster in 7 different versions

love that. MCIS and TAFH have a few certain phrases that weave in and out of the lyrics throughout the record. totally blanking rn -- but pretty sure in like Cherry he says something about Ruby. same for Stumbeline

i don't really put much stock in glass's theme and glass and the ghost children and "i'm the face in your dreams of glass" line in zero. maybe he was indeed referring to well-thought out central "character" in MCIS (that doesn't really happen to pop up anywhere else...) or maybe glass was just a word that sounded right in the context of a dirty mirror, and he later revised history to make it sound like a grand plan (note - he's NEVER been able to clearly articulate any clear, compelling story for machina other than it being about a rock band which is a fictionalized version of them, which who gives a fuck really)

anything else aside from that, connecting the two albums lyrically?
