I have a song labeled as "You Know what you did", and Trent Reznor is supposedly on it, but I didn't really hear him when I listened to it once. Is this track actually Era Vulgaris?

I actually named myself this before I heard the song...I too think Gossamer is an overly long song. I still think Era Vulgaris is ridiculously boring though. |

The album sounds like shit to me. It's like they've made a techno record with guitar samples.

This album is weak. Millionaire was better than the last two albums combined. Into The Hollow is probably the lamest thing they've ever done. They totally fucked Make It Wit Chu... Turnin' on the Screw and Sick, Sick, Sick are pretty good. The rest forgettable.

I'm a Queens fan but I'm really not digging this album. Into the Hollow, Running Joke, Threes and Sevens, and Turning the Screw are the only four songs I'd say I legitimately like. "Make it wit chu" was good upon first listen but doesn't really have any staying power; the Desert Sessions version is much better by comparison. My biggest complaint is that they fucking ruined "Fun Machine." That song had so much potential and it just sounds flat here. I think it has more to do with the production though than the actual musicianship...the difference between the "loud" and "soft" parts is too little, and I think this is true for most of the album. You can tell that there are parts where the guitar is supposed to scream through and melt your face, but it just doesn't happen.
One of the things that made Qotsa great was that everyone in the band was incredible at what they did; no one song was dominated by any one person in particular. But this is exactly what has been happening in their last two albums. Nick brought a lot to the Queens sound with some really awesome bass lines, and Dave Grohl (and whoever their previous drummers were) were capable of creating some really unique beats, and that just isn't the case anymore. Castillo is a good drummer who is capable of some pretty cool stuff, but for some reason he has played the most simplistic and uninteresting shit in the last two Queens albums. The same goes for the bassist...its like they don't even want it to sound like bass anymore, it sounds like a third guitar. Now everything is dominated by josh/Troy, and as good of musicians as they are, they need more working parts to make their sound work. Last edited by Boots Electric : 06-15-2007 at 12:48 PM. |
