Question Question for anyone who owns a Q101 Machina II

Recently a discussion among some netphorians has arisen in regards to the possibility that there are some fake Q101 copies of Machina II floating around out there. I am hoping to confirm the authenticity of a few copies in question, but I cant find the exact answers I am looking for anywhere else.

The info that is needed is this:

1) Exactly how is a Q101 numbered? For example, lets say hypothetically that I had copy number 50. Should the number look like “50/2000”? should it look like “0050/2000”? should it look like “#0050/2000”? or something else entirely? Were they all numbered differently?

2) Does anybody know the real story behind who/how these disks were numbered? The rumor I heard was that it was just interns at Q101, but couldn’t get any more detailed than this.

3) Does anyone know exactly how many copies of the disks were made? Are there any stories of multiple numbers, disks un numbered, or disks with numbers higher than 2000?

Any info at all that anyone knows would be a huge help. If you own a copy, a posted picture or detailed description of what the back looks like with the numbering would be awesome.

Thanks alot!

I second this.

It would also be interesting to hear where and when you got your copy. Please add this info too.

Especially if you got your copy from Q101 back in the year 2000 I would like to know how the numbering looks like. But all other situations (eBay, via someone who got it from Q101, used record store, later than 2000, ...) are very welcome too.

Thanks.

This is all a great idea and everything, but I started this fruitless search like 6 months ago when I was debating with Oklahoma Sexual over who had copy #1!

The point is, someone has to know how to get ahold of some of those old interns.
There must be one in particular who #"d 1-100, right?

Maybe you folks in the Chicagoland area should get over to the station and start doing some investigating/ question asking ASAP.

Anyone hear anything lately from the infamous Dan Owalzck? I still can't believe he said he didn't realize he had just sold another # 99.! What a fucking asshole.

1. my copy has 2 leading 0's in front of the number, as well as a # sign. so 5 characters total, in front of the /2000. like this:

#00xx/2000 in silver marker.

2. no idea.

3. no idea.

I know I am going to get it...but I am just wondering. Are you all talking about the copies of the album that were handed out as contest prizes?

Hmmm... This makes it possible that our eBay copies actually came from Q101 and were part of the originally 2,000 numbered ones.

We thought that maybe we could unmask the seller as the guy who numbered some spare copies himself by checking how the numbers on the "real" Q101 copies look like and compare that with our copies. But now that your number looks exactly like ours, this is another dead end.

Basically, I have little reason to believe my copy is a fake. It looks real and it's not impossible that they made a mistake at Q101 and placed the same number on two copies.
The only problem is the eBay seller. Why did he keep lying and denying. If he just would have said "yeah, this is how I got them and I didn't tell you because I didn't want to make you suspicious" I would probably have believed him and that would have been the end of it.
