My most memorable moment was in '93 when I was playing the old Indianapolis 500 game (nice EGA graphics), qualifying first and holding position for 30 laps, and winning. I only ever managed it once.

The first time I stepped foot in UO, in Fall '97. Also when I beat Esuna with Camil to get the rune in 7th Saga....I was so high of a level at that stage of the game, that she was nearly impossible, pretty much every spell she cast was instant death. It took weeks of trying.

so many video game memories.

beating Dragon Warrior was a thrill.
very recently beating Max Payne was fucking awesome.
oh shit! beating, i believe, the third (maybe fourth) episode or Wolfenstein, where you kill Hitler.
beating Doom II
not being able to beat one of the episodes of Doom (to this day i still believe it is actually impossible and the people at id software are complete assholes

but i'd say the gaming experience I most remember took place at an arcade. I was tripping my fucking face off and after an unrealisically insane game of air hockey me and a friend of mine played marvel vs capcom 2 and I beat the shit out of him several times in a row.

ZORAK: Let's start a band!
MOLTAR: Yeah! We'll call it "Freedom"! I like that.
ZORAK: That sucks.
MOLTAR: But "freedom" rhymes with "We From," like "We From the Land of ROCK!"

probably when Thomas and I beat ff9. We had to meet my parents at noon at some restaurant, and we were both in pajamas, playing the game, and we beat the damn thing and it was 10 till and we were still watchign the ending (which was BEAUTIFUL..) so we were both in tears because it was such a sweet ending, racing to take showers during the credits and then ran back to watch it. we ended up bein like five minutes late, but what a great ending that game has..

Probably the greatest moment in game playing for me was when I was in the oilrig in Counter-Strike. I was a terrorist with Mr. Automat-Kalishnikov, rounded a corner, and bam! Five fucking counter-terrorists who had no clue I was there! I gave them the Bin Laden treatment, only to round the next corner and have a CT shoot me in the head while I was reloading my weapon.

I really like the end of the world in Final Fantasy VI and the whole friggin' Mana Palace/Pure Land/Mana Fortress part of Secret of Mana...tres exciting, no?

It's true, it's true.

Christmas '86 when I played Super Mario Bros. on my brand new NES is pretty memorable. Also, the first time I played A Link to the Past there was a fierce storm outside and as you'll recall, that game starts out with rain and thunder. I sort of became Link for a few hours that day.

most memorable, but not in a good way, a few years back i dedicated a summer to FF7...a whole summer...had everything, knights of the round, all the characters, duplicated materia all over the place, i was kicking ass, 90+ game hours. one late night, i finally arrived at the final dungeon, saved and headed off to bed. a day or two later i return to finish off the game...but find NO DATA on my memory card AT ALL. all gone. i think i had a stroke when i saw this. i haven't been able to play it since, its too painfull.
does anyone know why a memory card would just completely erase for no apparent reason?

Was it a Sony memory card or third party? Third party memory cards are notorious for mysteriously losing data.

I really liked ff9. I can't really remember FF6, cause that was years ago, but it was awesome... Chrono Trigger too... haw. beating sonic on master system and unlocking everything in super mario world was nice too. and Yoshi's Island...

i almost forgot... FINAL FANTASY TACTICS!!! the deep dungeon! the secret characters! the secret techniques! This has to be the game i spent the most time completing.

haw.

*feels 80 yrs older*

http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/eek.gif Uh oh...

Actually, I don't know about that...I have a third party PS2 card and my friend has had a third party PSX card for two years, and they haven't glitched yet.

It's true, it's true.
