The definitive list of problems:

1) totally fine to call it a reunion without darcy, but not to do it in such a foolish, messy, misleading way. Just fucking be up front with your fans. You're diminishing the excitement of James being back by allowing the darcy conversation to take over.

2) total crap songwriting post machina 2, with only a few flickers of the 90s songwriting talent. singing ain't the best either

3) ticket prices

4) ego/attitude/narcissism/entitlement/etc/etc

5) other stuff

Jeff would have been there even if D'arcy was the bassist, she told me that for a fact. The only real difference is I doubt he'd be in any of the promotional photos.

Jeff is certainly part of the problem. He brings no energy to a live performance and he isn't a very creative player. And with James back there's really no need to experiment with a 3-guitar Smashing Pumpkins live attack for the first time in their history.

Jeff is making peanuts i'm sure. The original band were making MILLIONS and couldn't keep it going. Jeff sucks in my opinion, but look at it in his eyes. Do any of you go into work enthusiastically? I'm sure it's always a nightmare to work with Billy.

IDK about Jeff's motivations, but Nicole thinks she got the boot because she had another music project on the side, despite SP being her primary commitment. Jeff gets a pass?

Honestly, the only real problem I've seen in the last 18 years has been Billy's singing. That whole shaky, terrible vibrato, dropped consonants, and all that. He was never a good singer, but at least it didn't sound like he was trying too hard to sound better than he actually is. He used to sound earnest. Now he sounds embarrassing and annoyingly pretentious. Makes me hate everything else.

If he could just go back to losing the vibrato and shit, I think they'd/he'd be just fine. His guitar playing is still tops. His piano playing is better than it's ever been. And a lot of his riffs and ideas lately are pretty decent. It's just his singing that sucks.

Fact is Billy is a boring old guy with horrible dad taste and Jeffs playing is music to his ears. He's in the band and playing the way he does because thats what Billy wants. Billy would prob get fuckin Reeves Gabrels if he could. the guy probably owns Joe Bonamassa records

also, since living in the music world is not all about making money, i doubt that jeff would be content with not having his own creative projects and just doing old bill's bidding.
