SP comes pretty close to this at times. The more "metal" a band gets, the more I usually feel the power of the music is gutted by toneless, thin, staticy guitars through solid state amps, indecipherable screaming, and gimmicky shitty double-kick speed drums. It's almost like you try so hard you just completely miss the mark. When everything is turned up to level 10 insanity at all times, you lose the context and the music doesn't seem powerful anymore

yah... luckily though there are so many metal acts that many of them squeeze out a gem or two and that's about all the use I need from such bands.

CW, check your gray against this:

a couple of metal dudes where i work are always bitching about avenged sevenfold (their single "hail to the king" gets played on rock radio a lot) and they say that they sound like a metallica cover band now

they play the shit out of that song

and also that "way down below way down below" song that sounds like reba mcintire
and that magic dragons song that gets played on every single station "radioactive - welcome to the new age"

i hate all of them and have to hear them several times a day

right. like i said, a gem or two. I couldn't care less about avenged 7 as a band or any other song they have, but Bat Country kicks ass and is a standout song for the genre.

Who cares what it sounds like, it's impressive!

Its like gymnastics. not much to do with music. Unfortunately a lot of people (actually make that guys mainly) who ever pick up an instrument, especially guitar, have a pretty big ego (which is used to hide insecurity) and the worst that could happen is if someone called what they play easy. Hence shredding solos.

Your point would've been better made had you chosen Master Of Reality instead. Though I'm Hardcore would still win this debate with his examples (and probably countless others).
