Billy split it into two elements: social aspect and does the state recognize. Billy says he doesn’t understand why the government doesn’t recognize two people regardless of gender choosing to come together in a partnership and getting the same legal rights (such as when a lesbian couple buys a home and one of them dies and the family moves in). On the social side he said the political side comes in first.

Sexual orientation and gender identity are very different things, but GLB and T get lumped together because they are marginalized in many of the same ways. For example, a gay boy could be bullied because he was not "manly" enough simply for not going for girls, even if he displayed stereotypically male behavior otherwise.

Yeah I know that, technically speaking, they are horses of a different color. There are plenty of gays and lesbians that are perfectly happy and comfortable to be the gender they are and certainly do not want to identify as the opposite sex. Unfortuntely I've even heard that it has been the case in some gay circles that they do not welcome transgendered folks, and vice versa. Obviously from a practical standpoint it's best that these groups realize they broadly do have commonality of interests and should stand unified.

Also: WTF. I cannot comprehend Monte's explanation. Is it apologetics? Actually it looks like he's trying to avoid mentioning his stance on the matter all together...

yet again, an opinion that can be summed up in a maxim but bill has to bumble around for 17 paragraphs and put his foot in his mouth, which is quite a trick since his head is up his ass

What was the point of this post, Monte? Would you please acknowledge that Billy does not in any way agree with your stance on gay marriage. Is he aware that you are a bigot and, if so, how does he feel about it?
