Default Queen has released an album of two 1974 concerts and it costs € 40

For the regular 2LP, that is, with only portions of the gigs. There is also a deluxe version that has the two full gigs and it is around € 100.

I've listened to it online and it sounds nice enough but what the fuck are they thinking. Ridiculous prices (see also: SP reissues) are kind of becoming the norm in stores nowadays, we're almost at the point where € 20, which was around the usual price for a new LP, could be considered cheap. This might just be another self-destruction for the record industry (and especially the few stores left), what the fuck are they thinking.

I think vinyl is still a lot cheaper in US but I suppose especially the major label releases are getting more expensive too?

yeah, it's horrible.
they're trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of the people who still want to buy music.

The big market has started shifting toward the DVD COMPLETE SEASON BOX SET audience. Splashing out on enormous packages that only a heavyweight label could have the funds to produce.

I think box sets that are above $ 100 can be warranted if there's at least a certain amount of stuff in it which would be more expensive if it you bought all of it separately. More and more often that is not the case and you'll end up paying a lot of money just because it's super de luxe, which says more about the packaging than the music.

But this is € 40 for a regular 2LP. € 40. Regular.

I liked what I heard so far and I thought I'd maybe buy it for 10 or 15 if I could manage to find that somewhere, but then I saw the actual price.

The new Earth LP is almost that price too. Fuck everyone.

the pink floyd wall 2xlp reissue a year or two ago retails at the small stores around here for $49.99. the division bell 2xlp reissue a couple months ago goes for $44.99. 5-6 years ago i bought a new roots lp for $12.99. the newest one is $24.99. it sucks. neil young record prices might be the fucking worst.

another thought: those gigantic sonic youth box sets for dirty were one of the first new common mega-boxes i remember seeing. and then bands like guided by voices with the bee thousand directors cut. flaming lips too, post-yoshimi.

Numero group Unwound box sets are both awesome and priced reasonably. Not everything has gone to dystopian capitalism hell.
