the new goslings album doesn't seem as good as grandeur of hair after two listens, which is a slight disappointment

no i don't like occasion as much as grandeur of hair at all, or even as much as spaceheater and between the dead. it's uneven, but i threw it on the end of my list because most everything else i've heard this year is still worse.

the new r.e.m. album sounds exactly like monster but it's of course not as good because a) it's been done before and b) it doesn't have let me in and some other songs on it.

and i'm not even saying monster was good. r.e.m. is just like u2 now. realising their late 90s electronica "experiments" only made them more cheesy and going back to a boring alt rock style. with horrible drumming. and an obviously aging michael stipe. but some pretty awesome bass lines.

wow, guitar trio is my life by rhys chatham. this sure is better than a crimson grail but the decision to make this longer than three hours and repetitive as hell is completely beyond me. one track would have been enough. seriously man. that guy is nuts.

that bon iver album is weird, it sounds so much like phosphorescent and still i don't really like it. needs a few more spins.

for some reason i really enjoy "not for nobody" by scott tuma. apparently some ex-alt country guy but the music is mostly instrumental, acoustic, ambient and quite pretty i must say.

the tallest man on earth - shallow grave is a very solid folk / singer-songwriter album celluloid_love recommended to me. amazing swedish singer and catchy, too

i don't know what to think of neon neon. some catchy parts but overall sort of crappy. needs further listening.

the new portishead album is really not as great as i first thought and yes, it does sound dated. i sort of grew to hate the fuck buttons album too. don't ask me why. but the new prurient is superb!

Looking forward to Daniel Lanois' Omni Series:

Quote:
"For every song of mine that gets released there is an abundance of material that does not. These pieces, often favorites of mine remain unheard, so Red Floor and I have decided to release this body of work as The Omni Series. At the moment we are planning six cds. Each will be thematically assembled to represent a certain part of my work. For example, one will be called Steel, featuring steel guitar instrumentals that I love, some of them recorded during the Slingblade Teatro era,
and others more contemporary. They are melodic, serene, and transporting, the sort of cd that I personally love to hear. Another, provisionally titled Midnight, will feature more south of the border psychedelic material that could be viewed as a cousin to Belladonna. So keep an eye on the Red Floor site for specifics on release dates and so on. This work of course will be available as a digital download in full resolution at the same price as MP3 resolution. Your support on this is appreciated, conventional record company expectations do not allow for material like this to flourish into the market place, but we are believers and I think you will be too."

THE OMNI SERIES

- Daniel Lanois

We will begin releasing the Omni Series albums later this year.
This should be great. I'm a big fan of Belladonna.
