Default Master Of Puppets- Best metal album of all time?

Just a flawless fucking album really. It's definitely in the rankings for top 10 rock albums of all time.

Still sounds fresh and flawless to this day.

No I haven't. I like the early Metallica I've heard on the radio though.

Oh dear god took... Please go and listen to that album...

It's the only Metallica album I'm even really into, but you'll love it... I'd bet on it.

I don't know. Metallica has always been a bit too macho for me. Usually I like weirder metal, like Melvins or Burzum or Alcest.

Then again I like Motorhead so who knows. I will give it a try when I get to wifi.

Burzum is amazing, one of the few metal acts I see myself getting into.

Ride The Lightning is the best Metallica album, Reign In Blood is the best Thrash album, and even then i'd rate a handful of other records (Through Silver In Blood, Master Of Reality, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, In Battle There Is No Law, Dopesmoker) above Reign.

So i mean yeah MoP is good but it's probably my least fav of the golden run of early 'tallica

I love MoP. I almost never think about Metallica though. I've watched too many irritating interviews and it has ruined the music a lil bit.

i agree that MoP is the single most perfect record Metallica ever made. incredibly strong songwriting, incredibly strong playing and performance, great production that simply enhances and doesn't get in the way - just a golden record. Ride The Lightning has some moments too, although it's too raw and flawed for my tastes to truly be considered an untouchable classic, and Justice is on par with Puppets in many ways but has, you know, no bass and some general weirdness going on. which isn't necessarily bad and makes it kind of a singular sounding record in the metal genre.

but truly the best metal album i've ever listened to, although it's not even really metal when you really plunge into it, is City by Strapping Young Lad. there's not even a contest. it's truly an unparalleled snapshot of a tortured, blistering soul imho. it has endless depths as much as any highly revered record in any genre that you can name.

as far as 'dumb metal' goes Reign In Blood is also quintessential of the way thrash metal needs to sound.

Never listened to Slayer either. Maybe I will check them out instead of Metallica. I struggle with Hetfield's voice.

Oh man... I totally disagree. It's peak Metallica as far as I'm concerned. It's a really good balance of the thrash heaviness mixed with the perfect amount of melodic sensibility (which they'd later go on to overdo in a couple albums time)

Hell no, I had my metal phase... A lot of it cringe worthy to me now... Children of Bodom, Cradle Of Filth, In Flames... Gahhhhhhhhhh. But Master of Puppets holds up. A must have for any rock fans collection.

Remember I was raised on Heritage Singers and Sound of Music. My first "worldly" or "satanic" album was Celine Dion's Falling Into You.

I have a lot of catching up to do.

No doubt, I know how it is. I honestly haven't really heard much from Slayer in my life either.

Digging that Sabbath though. I went on a long walk on the dyke today, drinking beer, blasting Sabbath Bloody Sabath... Good shit.

No matter how much I enjoy Mingus Ah Um, I am at least cognizant of how unjustified I would be in thinking I had grounds to call it the "best jazz album," given my ignorance about the genre.

But then we have people who have listened to maybe five or six metal albums in their lifetimes, yet feel confident in proclaiming one of them the best of its kind.

I've been familiar with Sabbaths hits since I was a child.... Just haven't actually listened to the albums in any focused manner.
