I did go to a protest with someone, a white woman, one time and she lit up a joint for her anxiety. Which in a way I can understand. But yeah I think people going to protests should take it seriously. You're not fighting for your right to party.

Speaking of a right to party:
On our way home after the rally, we went by a very popular burger place. People usually sit outside to eat on a public square, police station right across.
I overheard a group of black people who came from the rally, talking about how this was the one chance to grab a burger there, too, because "today, no cop will show up and ask for ID."

Which they tend to do, more than 2 black men on a public square falls into the task of racial profiling, could be dealers, illegals, whatever other shit they come up with.

So to them, being able to get a fucking burger without trouble was special. That was when "check your privilege" actually hit me.

Just a few minutes ago protestors tried to pull down the Andrew Jackson statue in front of the white house. They broke through the fence at Lafayette park But the crowd was too small to overwhelm the cops and Metro police pushed everyone back. The Police sent in a unit of bike cops who used their bikes as shields against protesters.

SAN DIEGO – More than 1,000 skateboarders took to the streets Saturday in downtown San Diego to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

“We’re just using our platform to be able to deliver the message that Black lives matter, the systemic racism, injustice and everything,” organizer Brandon Turner said. “It’s a beautiful thing, we’re all coming together in the name of love.”

The Rolling for Rights protest was organized for the skateboard community to come together and speak out against injustice.

“I’m honestly just tired of it,” said Tyrone Olson, another organizer for the event. “I figured we could all get together cuz us skateboarders, we’re all different colors and race and Black, white, skinny, big, we’ve all been one unit for a long time so I think we get together and make this happen.”

It began in Balboa Park, with participants showing up well before the 1 p.m. start time. Organizers encouraged people to wear masks and said anyone seen agitating police would be asked to leave. But the event remained peaceful from start to finish.

“It’s just what we do,” Turner said. “We all stick together as one as the whole world is and it feels amazing. I see these friends and family at skate parks and around and we get around the city of San Diego, so I’m not surprised because it’s what we do is show up.”

The crowd took a knee as speeches were given. Then at 2 p.m. the main event began. A sea of skaters were seen taking the journey from Sixth Avenue through downtown, ending in Embarcadero, all the while spreading a message of justice and unity.

The history of the monument itself is pretty bad. The US government signed a treaty with the Sioux Nation recognizing the land as theirs, but as soon as they discovered that it sat upon gold deposits, the government violated the treaty and took it back.

The Supreme Court even ruled this unconstitutional.

Plus, even ignoring the actions of the presidents immortalized on it and the circumstances under which it was built, its tackiness is reason enough dislike it.
