Default I like Loveless as much as Siamese Dream

I literally cannot decide which one I like more. Though I suppose sometimes it depends what mood I'm in, or if I'm burned out from listening to them too much.

Whenever I get high I pretty much only want to listen to one of these albums.

"Daughter" by SP is also really really fucking good to listen to high imo

sd is easily my favorite of the two

one of the rare times an album's lyrical content'll play a large enough part in tipping the scales for me, i guess

Hmm. I guess I never asked myself which I prefer. It didn't really occur to me to compare them. I just like them both. Now that I think about it, it probably depends what mood I'm in.

As for listening to albums high, I've tried listening to these albums on acid before, and they sounded exactly the same as they always did. Same with every other album. But maybe that's just me. I don't really get profound cosmic experiences when I'm high. Maybe I need to try other hallucinogens.

Some time I want to get high and try to accurately transcribe Loveless for guitar.

Pretty much. If I had to relive one moment of my life for all eternity it would be "To Here Knows When" live

I was playing around with open tunings once and got something pretty close but that was all from memory and not actually listening to the song. It is pretty tricky. I think there's a minor chord major 7th in there somewhere which is really weird sounding.

I can't even transcribe chords, unless they are major or minor triads, or power chords. Anything else, and I'm immediately lost.

MBV tends to not use more than two or three guitars on a track, so that "wall of sound" isn't from overlays like other shoegaze bands do. I guess that makes it a little bit easier, because there aren't as many parts. But actually it probably doesn't because crazy pedals.

There is an awful lot of misinterpretation of how many guitars were used or how many effects were used. People make their own assumptions even though all the interviews are out there. It even says in the wiki article that there weren't that many guitar tracks.

You knew a guy who knew a guy who was probably fired from the project, huh?

There were definitely lots of guitar parts chopped and screwed up, sampled, with all sorts of weird things done to them, but the main guitar parts were mostly just a handful of guitars at most, plugged into an amp, with his sgnature glide guitar technique, some of which were fed straight into a reverse reverb preset on a Yamaha SPX90 rack unit. Shields achieved a sound of loads of overdubs by not overdubbing and instead adopting strange and unusual recording techniques.

I do love how SD and Loveless sound quite tonally similar but were at the extreme ends of the methods to achieve those sounds

it's two different specialties, really.

corgan has crazy studio chops, though. to be able to double a guitar part so precisely, so it doesn't become muddy and messy - that's a great skill. sd is really a testament of that

Lucky.

Loveless is great, but I was underwhelmed when I saw them live in 2013. The music was just bluntly loud, with none of the textures and melodies I love it for.

I think they had a lot more technical difficulties on the 2013 than they did on the 2007-2009 tours.

Speaking of loud shows, I've never brought ear plugs to a concert before, but as I age and get worried about my hearing, I'm starting to thing about it more.

How does it change the experience? Does everything sound muffled and shitty?
