I don't know why I should feel this way, given that I didn't like Cyr, but I feel a little bad for him. Hope he hasn't entered some sort of woe-is-me phase that destroys any possibility of better future work with Iha and Chamberlin. You can hear how much effort he put into Cyr, even if the results are not that impressive, so it flopping must have been a blow. After the Big Tour he has been delusional about their comeback success potential, methinks.

All his own doing. He's an extraordinarily talented musician and writer, and he should be as relevant today as 25 years ago. But he's surrounded himself with sycophants.

There is a solid and respectable album in Cyr somewhere. It has just been presented in a way which will turn off 90% of the people he wants to buy it. He needs an editor, he needs to be led by a producer etc rather than dictating. If he's intent on MCIS pt2 he needs to let Chamberlin and Iha take the reigns because their last solo records contained fundamentals of the SP sound his work is lacking. And finally... bury his god damn vocals.

As the comment above said, it’s all his own doing. All he had to do was to make one great record in, what, 15 years?
Honestly I feel bad for the Billy Corgan of the 90s, the kid with immense talent and era-defining songs.
Pretty hard to feel bad for a mercurial guy with amateur synths giving fans crap on Instagram, imo.

It's also the best album in nearly a decade.

This is very sad for the future of the band.
