This is what I don't get... how do you get time to listen to one hundred new albums in a year and properly absorb them all to the point where you can make a list? And I am assuming you heard a lot more than 100 albums if this is what you narrowed it down to. I dunno. I just don't know where I would get the time to listen to so much music. I heard maybe 30 new albums this year.

well if you listen to 3 or 4 albums a day for 365 days a year it's not hard

i just don't like listening to albums to death, i get bored. so i need new ones. if the internet died i would be pretty annoyed.

Yeah... see it takes me usually 3 or 4 listens to totally take in an album, and many more after that to fully appreciate it. If I can understand and appreciate the album fully in one listen I generally find it is not very good. But that is just how I listen. I can't even imagine taking in 3 or 4 albums a day.

it's interesting that your top 5 are relatively accessible records but most everything else in there would be considered more out there

does that mean you generally like the accessible stuff more? and all the 'weird' stuff is just mediocre by comparison

well i don't think most of the stuff on the list is that much more out there than birchville or michael flower

it just depends, the no age and panda bear albums are just great, skullflower is great too but i don't think that abyssic lowland hiss is the accomplishment that person pitch is, partly because matthew bower has been doing that shit for years. i've heard great mouthus, yellow swans, vibracathedral orchestra albums before, but person pitch and weirdo rippers i think are more unique at this point in time. birchville though, he always slays even if he doesn't change too much, but i think that birds call home their dead shows him continuing to round out his sound. michael flower, i think that album is an original approach to tony conrad/la monte young/angus maclise type avant garde raga music and it's pretty. animal collective are just a great band and strawberry jam is full of great songs even though i'm not so hot about the production choices they made.

but say deerhunter or the liars are accessible but overall i don't enjoy their albums as much as sword heaven or air conditioning

generally the top 50 there is pretty keen and the stuff below that is more hit and miss but i still enjoy it

there's a difference though, between listening albums to death and listening to them enough times just to digest them properly and analyse what you're hearing. when you do get bored of them quickly, its probably because they just aren't very good or at least lack the depth to retain one's interest over repeated listens. i think most people would agree that a really great record is one you want to hear over and over again. not that that's a rule or anything, but i really doubt there is anything profoundly great or different about most of these records and bands you're into, rp.

the best albums on my list i listened to HEAVILY though

i have 304 listens of person pitch on my last.fm alone. that doesn't even count all the times i listened to the cd in the car etc.

so don't sell short people who listen to a lot of music (not that anyone has done that necessarily), we get into albums just as much or more than anyone else

i think at least two of those are in the big ysi thread. if by lichens you mean white/lichens, that's a collaboration between two bands that is superb but sadly not in that thread. i've seen it on numerous blogs though and it's probably on soulseek
