If they ripped it off like a bandaid maybe... The time between annoucing and actual breakup was drawn out so long though. Machina II & the EPs put everything to bed nicely. The shock was when the Zwan record came out.

Really trying to remember what I felt or if I expected it but I honestly can't.

I must have had very strong feelings about it as I was a huge fan back then. I was totally and utterly obsessed with the band from the age of about 15 to when they broke up when I was 20.

But no, for some reason I don't remember anything at all about my reaction, expectations or feelings when they broke up.

17 years is a long time though I guess!

Just wait one minute here... Mr whir34, if that is your real name. How the heck would you remember/care about the original pumpkins break up when you claim in this thread http://forums.netphoria.org/showthre...65#post4274465 that you only got into the Pumpkins during Teargarden, presumably when you were 15. http://forums.netphoria.org/showpost...5&postcount=75

Mods please arrest whir34 immediately for fraud.

Let me guess: next, whir34’s from bangladesh, yet has memorized and fully incorporated into his everyday conversation the more sinister notes/beats of “Fox and friends”

Ha ha, oops.

Ok well the evidence is there that I have told two conflicting stories, I cannot really deny it. You got me bang to rights.

The honest to god truth is that I am 37 years old and have been a fan of SP since the age of 15 in 1995.

I have just spent the past 5 minutes reading that post and thread over and again and have no idea or recollection on why I lied in that post on 8 June 2016. Maybe I found it fun pretending I was a new fan to see the reaction of older fans. The shock they would have at someone becoming a fan during the Teargarden period, some of the replies were quite funny.

It's odd but I too am baffled by my own deceitful behaviour and I wish to sincerely apologise to everyone who I mislead especially Rider who I wrote the post too. I only hope my sins can be forgiven.

I am not a bad person deep down although I appreciate my word means nothing now. Maybe I was drunk, I used to drink a lot back then.

Red face

I'm beginning to have doubts that you are even a true fan, Whir34.

What is track 6 on Earphoria?
Who played bass on the Arising tour?
Complete this lyric: "Tonight, ______"

Your membership to Netphoria is riding on this.

1. How did you hear about Netphoria? Why do you want to join?

2. How long have you been a fan? Share one of your favorite SP memories.

3. What is your favorite SP/WPC song and why?

Easy.

Bugg Superstar
D'Arcy Wretzky - she left the band right after that tour.
Tonight, Tonight. Tonight, So Bright.

My fandom started in 1995 when my cousin lent me her Walkman on the school bus and I listened to Siamese dream on the way home that day and I was hooked from the outset. I brought that album and had it on repeat for days. When Mellon Collie came out later that year my obsession was complete. They were my life.

I have seen them three times in concert, twice in 2007 and then later in 2013.

The first time was in Paris in May 2007, the first concert after their reunion. I paid £300 for a ticket from E-Bay.

I also saw them at Route Du Rock festival, France in August 2007.

On 22 July 2013, I saw them in London at Wembley Arena.

I am from the UK so it is hard to see them more.

In 1996, I briefly considered getting a tattoo on my upper right shoulder with the SP Logo. This was during my obsessed stage. My girlfriend at the time talked me out of it.

In hindsight, I am glad I didn't get that tattoo as I may have regretted it in later life although I have never lost my love for the band.

Satisfied?

3. What is your favorite SP/WPC song and why?

1. I joined Netphoria for one reason - the SP Forum on their website closed down suddenly and without notice so I came here and set up an account as I wanted to be part of some form of online SP community. I don't post much but I get a lot of my SP news from the site as if something happens a post comes up almost a few hours later. As you can see from my post count, I am a bit of a lurker to be honest and use this site mainly for news.

2. I shared them in my answer to the first question - the first time I saw them live in Paris was undoubtedly a great memory, as I was gutted I never got to see SP1 live. Although the best memory will always be when I discovered them on that bus in 1995 and it was the first time I had heard music which I truly connected with. When Mellon Collie came out I think I listened to it over 1,000 times in the first week. I had life changing, epiphanies listening to their music in those early days. The music literally changed me as a person. I went from being shy and academic to outgoing and adventurous.

3. That's a very very difficult one as I like or love (nearly) all of their songs apart from a handful. Out of the classic records, the first song that popped into my head when I read your question was Mayonaise and it is usually my default answer when someone asks although I do love Soma, Muzzle, Porcelina, Thru the Eyes of a Ruby.

I am a huge fan though of the B Sides and more often then not, I find myself listening to the rarities and B sides album. Whir from Pisces is on my top 5 list too.
