I remember my grandpa having massive brushes of nose hair. red nose hair to be exact, whereas I've only ever known him with a white scalp.

I don't mind body hair but the shit coming out of my nose annoys me to a point where it's satisfying to go through the horror of pulling the hairs out of my nostrils

Invest in trimmers, my dudes. You'll have a lot fewer tears you get from plucking those fuckers out.

Something adorable no one cares about: my toddler likes to sit in my lap now and have me read to her, and it's one of the greatest feelings :')

It is. She took a little while to warm up to books, which made me nervous. But now she points at every picture and turns her little head up to look at me when I name each object and I could just cry. <3

Reading is so integral to my life, it just came so naturally to V and I that she is now reading at an almost 5th grade level while being in 3rd grade.
My nose is always in a book and she has grown up going to the bookstore and the library with me, hearing me gush over books.

Wish we would have known, I'd have made math more of a thing in our household.

as someone who was in her position and had to teach herself math as an adult and cry over calculus, i know the deal. my recommendation would be to introduce some basic coding, which could be appealing to kids who are independent and like to read. i have the impression learning about electronics and computis as a kid an in a structured way leads to an interest and proficiency in math without even realizing.

if i had a little ankle-biter, i would want to buy them this. i had to settle for buying it for tim.: https://shop.littlebits.com/products/synth-kit

i would have loved this at her age: https://shop.littlebits.com/products/rule-your-room-kit

Do you know the topic beforehand?

I think impromptu essays are bullshit. What skill is pulling something out of your ass without enough time to plan, consider, and revise your ideas supposed to hone? All essays should be take-home essays, IMO. The only assignmentss done in examination conditions should be ones that test your knowledge of a subject, not ones that test your ability to come up with a refined, interesting, and persuasive argument. Professional essayists and speech writers don't write their shit with minimal preparation an hour before they are due, so why do we test students on their ability to jump through that hoop?

It's a bit like a cooking show, isn't it.

The search for the best chef when it specifically comes to cooking everything in under thirty minutes (interspersed with diary cam interviews).

Don't forget the challenge of which team can first wrestle a cow to death in order to provide the needed meat for the beef wellington.

How can you expect to be head chef at a five-star restaurant when you haven't yet even mastered bovine battery?

In fairness, though, I do imagine that most chefs will be surprised during any given shift with a surprise ingredient they must work into the evening's dishes.

Something to become the hero of the dish and to really make the [insert standard ingredient] sing.

This seems especially wrong for speech writers. Lots of times unexpected events require a quick response.

I think being able to write coherently without prep time is a pretty valuable skill.
