What's the deal with these again? I find it hard to count them as real SP outtakes or versions in any way. Are they at all based on anything Matt Walker helped make back in 97/98, like earlier versions of the songs? Or is it just BC called him up in the mid-2010s, dangled some money and asked him to "remix" them? They do sound like the could plausibly be from the era, production-wise, but maybe that speaks more to Matt Walker being stuck on that Adore/TFE compressed drum sound.

i don't know, has Bill ever shed light on it? regardless, going by the other couple of "reimagings" on the reissue, it was clear Walker mainly focused on changing the ambiance moreso than the tempo, so either way it's a pretty good indicator that the Adore CCS was actually that speed

That was my question. To my knowledge, we still haven't heard the "true" Adore version of the song, but I imagined it would be at least somewhat in line with the Walker remix. Do we know if it's Matt playing drums on the song, or one of the other drummers from the Adore sessions?

End of the day, it sits in the same space as "Let Me Give the World to You." It's a "good to very-good" level song, but neither were the keys to Adore being a multi-platinum success like Billy imagined (I remember one interview where he said one of those songs, I think "Cash Car Star" would have gotten maximum radio rotation). They might have driven some initial album sales up front, and the album may have debuted at number one its first week, but Adore was never an album that was going to sell as much as the previous two records.

I think the charm in the Machina II versions of both songs is that the band did not put too much thought into them, and just tossed out some cool sounding outtakes with Jimmy on drums.

yeah both songs' M2 versions kick the asses of the Adore versions - as for the drumming question, those just sound like programmed drums to me

That was LMGTWTY. Before the Adore reissue he was saying that the record company were really in love with the song, convinced it was going to be a huge hit, and wanted it to be the first single etc so he decided to remove it from the album.

Having heard it I think everyone involved must’ve been smoking crack

I think someone did. Eventually.

Not even just that but there's no way it would have fit the record thematically nor time wise.

Now that I think of it, there probably is not a finished adore of the song. Hence the "remixes "

yeah i'd be really surprised if the version we got on the reissue was actually the one the record company et al were fawning over - would bet on it either just being unfinished or a more recent "Rubin revisitation" of the track

so i am the only one who likes the adore lmgtwty?

def agree that it isn't the "hit that would put tsp back on the level mcis" that the bald lord so boldly claimed.

The version they played live in 98 is better than both Machina 2 and the Adore outtake. Seriously what’s with the drums on the Adore outtake version, they sound so cut together

the myth made it sound like it was the next Tonight Tonight, & considering that hype was created by more than one person (& for what it's worth, not just BC himself) it makes it harder to believe the humdrum demo-level release we ended up getting was truly the "golden goose" in question

unless they really were just speculating over a decent demo - i suppose that's not so far-fetched
