Default Adore 1998 vs Adore 2014 remaster

This comparison is interesting, because overall the remaster is no more compressed than the original CD.

Adore 1998 = DR 8
Adore 2014 = DR 8

Links here:
http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/145497
http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/150667

When you look at individual tracks it gets more interesting. The original Pug is a very squashed DR 4 whereas the remastered Pug is DR 7. In fact there are only two tracks that drop in DR value for the remaster - Crestfallen and Behold! The Nightmare. They drop by one point each, whereas several other tracks move in the opposite direction the same amount.

I dunno. I didn't really listen to the remastered stereo version. I was into the mono mix.

Nobody told you, you had to read this thread...

Was there a high resolution download available from "Adore"?

I think I listened to the remaster only a coupla times on Spotify. I honestly couldn't tell the difference. Been the same with all the remasters so far. The only one I play is the digital DL of MCIS as I almost never play CDs anymore. I'm no audiophile, can anybody explain what they actually did? I know about the alt take of one of the songs (Frail and Bedazzled?) they (mistakenly?) used on the PI redo.

The MCIS remaster is the best remaster I have ever heard. In fairness, I don't like remasters cause most of them seem to ruin the gentleness and nuance of the original for a cheap volume boost, but MCIS sounds amazing. Listen to the original Jellybelly vs. 2012 Jellybelly on headphones and you will understand the difference immediately.

The other reissues I could take or leave. Gish and SD sounded fine but just too loud, like they didn't need to be remastered. Adore was basically the same for me. the PI remaster sounds like shit for some reason and they fucked up some of the tracks on some songs I think?

PI is too compressed on the remaster.

When the remasters first came out I A/B'd some of Mellon Collie and aside from a couple of tracks (Lily being the most notable from what I remember) the differences were pretty damn subtle. Don't think I ever even tried it with Adore

I agree with RBG, the only noticeable improvement is MCIS.

And definitely the remastered Pug. But like that's it

The MCIS remaster was great. I notice a difference on Adore too. Some of the quiet parts on To Sheila, for example, have more clarity and stand out more.

On the reissue, the vocal take on Plume is definitely different. It might not be the entire take, but there is absolutely a line or two switched.

One of the things that still bothers me about the Adore remaster is how 2 lines of Crestfallen were just taken out and deleted.

In the original 1998 Crestfallen, he sings “Who am I?” 6 times at the end. But in the remaster, they truncated it to only 4 times. Makes the song end too fast. I prefer the original.

Another difference if I remember correctly is the end of Ava Adore... I think it goes a little longer before 100% fade out, so you hear a little more instrumentation.

I remember the bonus tracks on Pisces being clipped to the point of almost being humorous, but I haven't listened to those tracks in years. I loved the cassette replica and getting a DVD copy of the Pulse show, but I remember the bonus disc being the least interesting of the box sets so far.

As other stated, Mellon Collie was the only album I could tell a noticeable difference on, and those were fairly subtle. Some of the heavier songs ("Jellybelly, "Where Boys Fear to Tread" and "Bodies) sounded clearer and loss bottom heavy/muddy than the original, but I imagine the changes only make a difference to people like us who have listened to the original for years.

Gish - never noticed much in the way of changes

SD - Flipped channels on silverfuck

Pisces - Plume wrong take, bonus disc badly brickwalled

MCIS - Vast improvement over original

TAFH - Wrong vocal take on dreaming

Adore - Crestfallen as above. IIRC 17 was also different somehow

I take solace in the fact that Machina isn't even supposed to be the same album so changes made are irrelevant to me

i've never listened to the remaster, the golden era is perfect and i don't want 2011 billy's take on these songs

that being said i've switched out in itunes my machina copy for the tape rip, and ZG->present for the vocal down mixes. i have the real version under 'SP Extras' for reference

I hate that Eye on the Adore bonus disc is a completely different mix/version altogether.

I prefer the original Lost Highway version.

I downloaded a cassette rip of Machina from Soulseek and it turned out to just be a CD rip with the volume reduced.

True, and what's up with all the cherrypicking from Reel Time, Sadlands and Ignoffo demos? Just add the whole sessions to the bonus discs.

FYI the word "*******" gets the ***** treatment on here.

Wow the 2014 mix is terrible. Sounds like somewhere down the line B0lly decided he's a pop singer instead of a guitarist that also sings.

After hearing what he did to Eye on the Adore remaster, I can't wait for the VoxUp mix of Machina.
