now that he's finally joined the "ka-ching!" ranks he used to complain about so often, perhaps as an ultimate symbol of "We're not so different, you & i" they could get Pavement
or yeah, Garbage would be pretty sweet |

The real correct answer here would be Afghan Whigs... I know Jimmy is at least buds w them. HOWEVER... I'm not sure what the contrast would be having a 90s act open for them who are currently releasing albums people really like.

My Vitriol would be the best band to open for them currently but they would smoke the Pumpkins off the stage.

My Vitriol is a ridiculous suggestion, I doubt anyone in America heard of them at the time let alone now, they would fit in perfectly though as a band who have completely fudged a comeback |

Billy wouldn't pick any band that could upstage his shitshow, so there will be no opener.

Hahaha I got introduced to MV through netphoria. Their first record is amazing then Som kinda lost his mind
People always drew comparisons between them and the Pumpkins soundwise, now that I think about it there are a ton more If they toured together it'd fucking implode |

I think D'arcy should open with a half-hour bass solo, before introducing the band:
"Ladies and gentlemen, all the way from Manchester in England, please welcome the bass-playing wizard son of Patti Smith, mister Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaack Baaaaaaaaates!!!" |

Some label is gonna PAY for one of their bands to open for SP. Billy/management is gonna accept the highest bidder. That's truly how that shit works today. $$$$$. period.
& it's easy to make sure the openers don't upstage the headliners. Just restrict their volume 10db quieter than the headliners. leave the house lights half on during their set so "fans" can find their seats before the headlines start. No matter how great they are, these two manipulated factors will make SP seem like the bigger and better band. I've seen this at SOO many shows it's disgusting. the opening bands don't even have a chance to impress. but that's how the industry works at that scale. To 99% of concert goers "oh wow SP sounds so loud, they must be playing better. oh wow, it feels like a real concert in a club now that they turned the lights down" while the headlines just turned UP the volume and start using 10x the the stage lights... |

I think Billy will have Joy Formidable and/or Starcrawler. He was having dinner with the guys from JF the other day, and recommended Starcrawler on his instagram.

The Joy Formidable would totally upstage them. Such incredible energy on stage. As intense as the Pumpkins at their peak, but they do it as a three piece.

I'm going to King Crimson instead. In a small but classy venue where classical artists normally perform. Will gladly overpay for that.

If they are doing a friendly greatest hits tour that sounds like SD, they should shamelessly choose opening bands that share the same kind of style
Silversun Pickups Joy Formidable Wolf Alice Yuck The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Surfer Blood Or any of this 90s revival band that are popping up. |

One thing any opener should know...stay away from Billy's Voss water pyramid or deal with the consequences.
