Question Apple Lossless Format?

On the features column on the iTunes download page, it says the following...

Import Music. Gather all your music in one place in AAC, MP3 or Apple Lossless format.

What is the apple lossless format? are they talking about mp4a/p? I thought that was still lossy...

confused.

Thumbs down

Sometimes when you decode it comes out missing some frames, I don't trust it. I read about this on the hydrogen forums. It sounds good on my ipod though, but it's impractical.

What do you expect from the most coloured computers?

That, unlike a Windows PC, everything works the way it should.

No, it don't if it miss frames. In Windows we have EAC, and with the right offset setting, we don't miss any frames.

If you're really determined to play lossless on the iPod then use Apple Lossless, but keep a backup in another format.

I'm not even sure this thread was about iPod but maybe it was.. whatever.

With my 3rd gen iPod ALAC works well but it would skip every 15 minutes or so.. I think it works better with 4th gen but not sure.

That's not the point. This discussion is not about ripping CDs. Interestingly, for me iTunes has successfully ripped some CDs that EAC couldn't rip correctly...
