David S. Pumpkins v Smashing Pumpkins in the 2010s.
Serious question:
Who has made more of an impact on American culture this past decade: David S. Pumpkins or the Smashing Pumpkins? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_S._Pumpkins |

I read an oral history of the sketch a couple years ago I think, and the writers were talking about this one line they nearly used, where one of the elevator riders would say "He’s not part of the known Halloween universe, but he’s acting like he is"
I continue to think about that line much, much more often than I do any of the songs on Shiny |

When you think about it, Smashing Pumpkins might have had their fleeting moments and had a successful tour or two the past decade, but did they really have people talking? Were they as original as David S. Pumpkins? No. I mean this may sound like a joke thread but David Pumpkins video was uploaded 3 years ago and has 16 million views. Drum & Fife was uploaded 4 years ago or so and has less than a million. I suppose you could argue Billy's old classic music is still making an impact, but did it make a splash like David Pumpkins this past decade? No. Glad to see my fellow pumpkinheads are with me on this one. Last edited by Candy Cane : 01-03-2020 at 06:42 PM. |

Is it just me or is none of this funny? This is the second sketch I've seen of these new SNL episodes since the mid 00's. That one was the Weezer sketch.

The poll doesn't mean anything to me. SNL is like high school talent show level now. David pumpkins skit is painfully unfunny. I ended up watching various videos explaining how great it is and I still don't get it.

I thought the David S. Pumpkins skit was weird, until the last bit where I got it. I watched it the night it was on, which is uncommon for me.
Also you only hate SNL because you're not liberal, I'm betting. It's damn funny lately. Last edited by reprise85 : 01-05-2020 at 07:16 PM. |

I haven't seen it in years because it became so unwatchable around the 2012-14 era. I'm not really political, but I'd say I was a centrist that leans left more than right most of the time. I really don't know what that has to do with the humor, though. Unless it has became overtly political since then.

I was under the impression this sketch was new. Like from Halloween 2019, my bad. As I stated, I have only seen this and the Weezer sketch. The latter being the only thing I've seen from SNL to hit the mainstream in a long time. Seeing that the Weezer one was the so called cream of the crop, I still feel like I have enough to form an opinion on.

Well, lucky for you AveryLoren, I think David S. Pumpkins is gonna get smoked in 2020. Now the buffoon is itching to go to war with The Bald Order after already strangling them with ridiculous sanctions for years. I don't much care for the left at all, but it's not very hard to read the tea leaves at this point.
