Muse played Centre Bell on March 30, 2019, to 17500 spectators, then Centre Vidéotron the next day to 15000.

SP played Centre Bell on August 2018 to 10000 spectators, despite skipping Québec City altogether.

In June 1996, at the height of the Smashing Pumpkins' popularity, Kidz Bop Live sold out the Rose Bowl at 150,000 people (they were standing on top of one another like glitching NPCs).

The next day SP played the Concord Pavilion to a partially empty crowd of 8,000.

Do the fucking math, kids.

They’re bigger than SP ever were despite their music being total shite since Black Holes (and the dead cat bounce that was Drones)
Well, I'm basing this on not liking their music, personally. I can't really believe a band I think sucks can fill a stadium.

I disagree that MUSE is as big as SP. MUSE never captured a cultural zeitgeist the way MCIS did in 1995. SP were the biggest band in the world at the time hands down. They sold more records than MUSE. I guarantee you more people know the name Smashing Pumpkins than MUSE. Also SP weren't blatantly ripping off other bands for their sound. MUSE has been mercilessly ripping off Queen and Radiohead since day one.

Wait a sec. Are you the person who writes these explosive headlines which Google is always saying I might like?

Something like "Billy Corgan [STATES CONTROVERSIAL OPINION] About [ALT BAND FRONTMAN]", and then when you click the link, it's Billy saying like "I wish the very best for [ALT BAND WHICH PEAKED BETWEEN 1991-1999] and their recent success"?

And then I'm like, dammit Google you got me with the clickbait again?

You keep getting me, dude. It's like you are the Road Runner, and I am Wile E. Coyote.

Perhaps Pumpkins sold more records, but again that's the time SP were popular in. Bands sold a hell of a lot more records back then. It is about the audience you can draw out to shows now. Also, Muse has just over 2.5 million more listeners on Spotify and labeled #403rd in the world. Smashing Pumpkins has no # badge. When Pumpkins were disappearing into obscurity, Muse were just starting their career. Muse have been selling out stadiums for a while now. Muse is either just as big as SP WAS or bigger.

By the way, Nirvana's listeners on Spotify match SP and Muse combined and 201st in the world. Nirvana has more listeners than Led Zeppelin. Oasis has over 13 million and just beating Nirvana and 199th on Spotify.

Also, come on, seriously trying to bash Muse and claiming they blatantly rip off Queen and Radiohead while Billy didn't blatantly rip off My Bloody Valentine, ride Nirvana's Nevermind's coattails, and there are literally moments where Billy's songs sound mysteriously like other people's music.

EVERY artist is inspired by someone else. You can find it everywhere, even in Queen and Radiohead. You just don't like Muse. Hell, I lost respect for Muse from Black Holes and on. But that doesn't change that they are indeed just as big, if not bigger than SP.

System Of A Down have a couple of hundred thousand more listeners than Muse.

Slipknot has a million more listeners than SP.

The SP greatest band in the world bubble just done popped

Not that easy to measure that tho. For example, my friends in Brazil can't listen to a couple of Pumpkins albums/tracks 'cause they're not available due to copyrights issues.

This isn't about who gets the most plays, it's about actual individual listeners. You can still easily listen to 1 SP song and you are now counted as their listener.

Listeners are different persons listening to your music. Play is how many times your tracks are played. The amount of listeners is a measure of that artist's popularity. The amount of plays increase the statistic and royalties. The amount of listeners oscilates. The amount of plays is always accumulative

they are currently being tracked very secretly underground (as is appropriate for a band with their sort of groundswell)

trust me, the numbers are yuge

But if I only listen to muse because I love black holes and revelations and only listen to the Pumpkins because I love Machina, and the latter is not available on Spotify, I will probably not listen to the Pumpkins on Spotify.

Besides, the average muse fan is way younger than the average Pumpkins fan. I know a lot of Pumpkins that done listen to music online at all.
