Post Best 2016 Plainsong Song

Malibu, Whir, and Disarm were such pleasant surprises last year. I vote Malibu. Katie killed that one.

Still love The Spaniards and Identify was great as well. I've seen the Pumpkins live more times than I can count and it was 2016 In Plainsong was one of my favorites!

Solo bill Disarm was really cool, first time I've given shits about that song in years

It really was one of the highlights for me too. Great ebow work by the James here:

Was lucky to be there that first night with James. Crazy stuff. Still gives me chills.

That said, the other major highlight for me that night was Saturnine. Such a fun way to get the show really going after an opener that I think most folks, even the pretty die-hard diehards didn't know. (Somehow totally missed that whole Chicago songs thing, so World's Fair went right over my head)

It was a good take on Disarm. I'd go with that one.

tbh, I haven't even delved into the plainsong stuff, is there a best of comp yet?

but Identify really is great, especially because of the high quality vid, Billy doing the false start, and his voice hits that perfect range for him.

Billy does seem uncomfortable with not knowing where to put his hands. I don't blame him though, he probably feels naked without his guitar. Look how fast he trots over at the end of the song and grabs teh acoustic.

Post Whir

Jimmy's drumming on Whir was sublime. Sadly, his drumming was fairly restrained on that tour. Only Whir, Malibu, and Angie had the old flair. Still, any opportunity to see him perform is welcome.

disarm on the in plainsong tour blew me away. i've never liked disarm. but Billy playing it solo with a mellotron was by far the most moving and compelling version of the song i've ever heard, and they've rearranged it many, many times. other than that, I thought stumbleine was fantastic too, simple open chord version with surprisingly great, full throated vocal delivery.

I agree. This is my favorite live Disarm now. Stumbleine was very good too (although I still like the summer 98 version best). It sounds like a close cousin of 1979.

Stand Inside Your Love last year with Katie was one of the highlights of the tour. I greatly prefer the live Plainsong version to that Katie studio version.
