Default splra update--main site almost done/t3h r34n1m4t0r

So, the main splra DB is nearing completion, and can be viewed at http://splra.org/database

Info-wise, its from a months-old version of the wiki, so you shouldn't trust it for info yet. When Frank and Jason finish tweaking it, we're going to parse in the final version of the wiki (http://splra.org/wiki) to update venues, lowest known generations, etc. Lineages in the final version will be switched from looking like this:

ANA(M)>DDC(2)>CDR

to this:

ANA-M>DAT-2>CDR

More interesting is Frank's other project, the reanimator. It will work on an MD5 database which will come downloaded with the software, much like etree with the shnid system. This piece of software (should we release it, more on that later) will:
rename all the files in a fileset to standard in on clip.
standard is going to look something like this:
tsp1995-10-23[fm1]d1t01.shn (standard source)
tsp1992-08-05[amt1]d1t01.flac (audio transfer from a vid source)

write any files whose md5 was not found in the database to a file along with the actual md5 of the file
rename the containing folder of the files according to standard.
automatically download the standard md5/ffp/txt/st5 files to the folder (existing files will be kept and renamed from "noname.md5" to "noname-old.md5")
log the name changes that were made to a file.
log any errors that are encountered and suggest a quick way to fix them.

once renaming is complete the files will work with an external tag file.
since each track will be named something unique the files will all have tags.
there will be plugins written for Foobar, Winamp, XMMS, MPD, quod libet, and others. (ask Frank more about this)

The reanimator can also dump a list of all the complete shows/sources you have to a text file, which can then be uploaded to the SPLRA server, and turned into a bootlist. The bootlist feature can also work in a way that none of your file/folder names are changed, should you not want them to be. While the bootlist feature is not finalized, it definitely possible.

The nice thing about the md5 database is that it eliminates the problem of lost text/md5 files. In the case of a fileset not having md5/checksums, we will confirm checksums for it from *at least* two different people, and then add that checksum to the db. With the md5 database, each recording within the overall date/venue DB could link to a page showing detailed tracklisting, circulating filesets, md5, etc.

We realize that this may cause some objection among the community due to changing of filenames. That is why we want to run a poll on netphoria about whether to release the software or not, and give everyone a chance to voice their opinions. No SPLRA staff member will vote in this poll. Even if the software is voted down, the bootlist feature/md5 database is still a possibility. Check back soonish and it will be up as a separate topic.

Other things:
-Still taking contributions to the wiki--no photos uploaded please. If you want to give one of us a photo, PM/email us and we will make sure it gets uploaded into the db, guaranteed.
-Banter transcriptions are especially appreciated, as are clarification on exact lengths of recordings. Many sources have arbitrary lengths such as 100m or 120m. Checking is easy, just load the set into your media player of choice and check the total time. We're rounding like this:

1:00-1:29=1m
1:30-1:59=2m

-Look for a vine/tree (finally!) of the Fares tapes within a month.

-splra

http://splra.org/database/showgig.php?gigid=917

The venue is incorrect. The show was at the Arena in Oberhausen, Germany. Not Berlin. I wanted to report that earlier, but the site doesn't list an e-mail address where to direct corrections to...

hmm, this was an earlier issue we were having with venues not matching to the correct date. I'm going to run this by Frank and we can see if this is just a vestigial thing we never caught or a new bug (it might clear itself up when we re-parse the wiki anyways). For future reference, you can either post on netphoria/the splra board, pm us, or use these emails:

yeah i cannot check if it is an old wiki error or a parse error. i really need to get this stuff done so that i can just reparse the wiki one last time.
