thanks very much for giving it a listen, and for the comment.

part of what i shoot for in these pieces is the sense that the "sound" is an autonomous entity, shifting and evolving on its own without a composer at the helm

Welll...that's rather interesting and quite a trick. Sounds like you pull it off for the most part.

nah.....why you delete that? I was checking that stuff out from time to time.

I been kinda thinking about you're approach to music corker, of all things. I like to get ambient echo driven psychedelia patterns emerging as if flying a kite; the more it gets away from you, the more finesse it takes to real back in. For me though, I crash land often. You seem to be a natural at it.

I got the songwriter's curse: I gotta 'say' something, blah blah blah and it should be in key,,,,great, more work as I push myself to sing in different keys, not just my natural ones...gotta find the right tone to palm mute and such...delay tempo has to be on point...correct string gauges and pick sizes for each song and yadda yadda shmadda...

Couple songs in...I like your indie style and in particular Pick you Up, it has a good pace to it.

p.s. I've always listened to the music in this thread.

thanks TOC (and smashingjj for the rep). I haven't legit written a song in about 6-7 years but I had a period where I was pretty prolific, when I got back from my personal hell I was in for about 4 years. I couldn't play guitar while I was there either, so I re-taught myself and started writing again. I actually wrote some songs when I was like 13 and they weren't terrible, I have a recording of a couple of them somewhere... that I wrote when I was about 13 but recorded when I was around 19/20. I think Light I recorded in mid/late 2007. Some of those songs on the soundclick site are a bit cringe-y, there's some better ones here (with some overlap): https://soundcloud.com/lasthurrah25/sets/last-hurrah

I had like a mental breakdown in 2008 and went into the hospital in April for the first time. So these songs span the period after I got back to when I started having full blown PTSD and drug addiction

a mental breakdown eh? didn't know that.

Most pumpkin fans music I've heard is really good. This usually leads to me thinking of Act IV and the squandered energy that became of it. pfft...C'est la vie.

It's good to record everything, even jams. I like to do the glorified cassette tape recorder thing with the camera I have, which is one of those little ones with a nice mic meant for filming shows and such. If I get an idea, I'll typically hammer out some arrangement before I commit to record it and if the piece starts to compose itself (so to speak), i'll be all in with it until its done, usually 1 to 3 days.

That's been with newer songs of late, which prompted taking the dust off some pieces going back a decade or more and finishing them. songs are ready to go, but i'm not and not until composition copyrights are in hand first among other things.

I don't know what you'd consider cringeworthy on this roll. That's a solid arrangement with Nightlite. It carries very well. On 2nd pass, i heard the lyrics to Pick You Up...ok, wow. After a while I stopped with the critique notions and just listened. It's all heart felt and solidly played. well done 85.

getting closer...pretty much have all the parts written in sections to allow room to breathe in them, but I'm trying to establish less forks in the road to be more direct in piecing them together.

Gothic SG... it's a standard with a slightly different tone color because of the ebony fretboard. It does look cool without the markers on it and the crescent moon/star on the 12th fret. I could mod it to make sound more how it looks, but i get enough darkness tone wise as it is, so...meh.

This stupid band just gets drunk and high and fucks around in studio and writes stupid songs, or all go into a room and improvise jam noise and record the sessions and snip out little bits of the moments and releases them when they're bored. None of it matters but it is also the most important.

heres a dumb live improv album.
Everyone swaps instruments so they feel less pressure and the jam can open up to more free spaces and shit, or some other drunk hippie shit i dont know.

One of the new finished tracks form my upcoming Curiously Strong Peppermints album. I originally wrote this for my ex years ago, but filed the song away and then later gave it to a different band I was in, Awkward Bodies, to record for their second album. But that band broke up, so it never happened; all we had tracked were the drums.

My ex died about a year and a half ago of a drug overdose. I revived the song and reappropriated it back into The Curiously Strong Peppermints, finishing the song myself from the drum tracks recorded for Awkward Bodies. The song is kinda like a hymn or a prayer to her now. Life fucking sucks sometimes.

That's some fancy nice playing Elph; and it sounds like it was recorded in 1936. I half expect Al Jolson to start singing.
