Brian Jonestown Massacre - Methodrone

Several times. I thought I'd have a hard time separating the music from the awful personas of the artists shown in the DiG! documentary but I didn't.

Finally listened all the way through my Three Lobed Recordings "Not the Spaces You Know, But Between T**** limited 4xlp box. Just stunning.

Check out this lineup:

SIDE A - sun city girls

1. wide world of animals. 2. sangkala. 3. caravan.

recorded live november 12, 2004 at emo's in austin. this was the final US show by the sun city girls and this crisp soundboard recording shows the group clicking at a high level.

SIDE B - steve gunn

1. the lurker extended.

recorded at boerum palace in brooklyn in february of 2011. this is a mesmerizing swirling jam that has been played with frequency at gunn's recent live shows.

SIDE C - sonic youth

1. in & out. 2. out & in.

"in & out" recorded in pomona, ca and at echo cañon, nj, in 2010. "out & in" recorded and mixed at echo cañon, nyc in 2000 and includes jim o'rourke. two epic jams, including the monumental thirteen minute instrumental "out & in" which touches on elements of every part of sonic youth's myriad sounds.

SIDE D - mouthus

1. cabled away. 2. echo the sun.

recorded in brooklyn in 2010. two fluid communications from the other side of music channeled to us mere humans by brian sullivan and nate nelson.

SIDE E - comets on fire

1. 2950 3rd st.

a collage of recordings made between 2006-2010 that were arranged and mixed in may 2010. a screeching and wailing full workout similar to the band's "black cassette" release.

SIDE F - d. charles speer & the helix / wooden wand

1. d. charles speer & the helix - "big, big city". 2. d. charles speer & the helix - "shooting star". 3. wooden wand - "holed up (spooning with the void)". 4. wooden wand - "hall of blame". 5. wooden wand - "black nikes".

the d. charles speer & the helix tracks were recorded at seizures palace in brooklyn in april 2010. the wooden wand tracks were recorded at home in the winter of 2009 and summer of 2010. the speer/helix tracks are two glorious renditions of some honky tonk classics and represent the only recorded studio output of the era of the band with dave nuss (no neck blues band) on drums. wooden wand sits down with the recorder on to help mere mortals better understand universal truths (keep the bottle handy).

SIDE G - eternal tapestry

1. doing your own being.

recorded live to tape in portland on april 20, 2010. this track is powerful and recast version of the band's "prism light traveller" from the 2009 three lobed album, palace of the night skies. here the band has slowed the track down and added some intense organ - the results are absolutely transportational.

SIDE H - bardo pond

1. the invisible fire.

recorded in the lemurhaus in philadelphia in january of 2010. you know bardo pond so you know what to expect - rules on how to live in twenty minute power-doses. this is no exception.

I have not listened to any albums today, but the last album I did listen to was the Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails.

I love that album, I bought it for myself on my 12th birthday.

buncha italians do it better singles lately. had a good rutting to zz top's eliminator this morning/afternoon.

listened to neil young's international harvester treasury archive a few times over the course of a couple days with my dad. that live version of grey riders is beyond excellent.
